So I removed both exhausts from my 74 Mk2 and I cant get the peashooter to separate from the exhaust pipe. I did manage to get the tabbed flanges to pry up a bit and still no luck. I soaked the flange connecting point in some freeall fluid and still no movement! I am being careful with a flat drift and a dead blow hammer. Still nothing! I guess 37 years of connection requires some other measures. Anyone???

On a shiny note:

I did manage to take then grime off some parts using my Caswell buffing system....Addicting aint it ???

Gotta love those shiny bits!! To me, a little elbow grease is time well spent.

Same as above on the PB Blaster, you can get at any big box store. Those bits look great and are putting a hardship on me to make mine that nice.

ON Blaster has saved me many times over the years. First used it on a broken & rusted out exhaust stud on a old car & it came out easy after soaking over night. As for the mufflers, my neighbors got a very loud four letter word filled play by play of my old ones fighting me when I tried to get them off. I ended up bolting somthing on the the muffler mount to use as a handle so I could twist and pull. You might try doing that. And the PB Blaster. Good luck.

You should be able to flex them back and forth at the joint putting the muffler between your knees and pulling up on the pipe as you do it.

watch out for that "sudden" release !

PB does work wonders. And, yes thanks for the advice on the sudden release!

Thanks again for all who gave me advice,

This forum is the best.

Nothin' wrong with those mufflers n' pipes . Try polishing them up or even say spraying them flat black . Trick.
