After being perplexed by a carburation issue, the bike from tick over started to rev up on it's own....then died! ...
Guess what... with the new [chineese] pet cocks, the rubber in them had swollen with our e fuel...to the point the rubber had closed the hole at fully open position, only a dribble was flowing.
It's a real eye opener. i detached the pipe to the cards banjo, turned on the fuel and just a trickle! with a full tank.

I concur, I took one look at them (internally) and binned them. Rubbish.

Oh My Gosh John, this also drives me crazy to try to be grown man matured and rational enough with scope of mind enough to even be able to start up let alone get anywhere and not need a rescue. I do not know if China has the alcohol or other fuel solvent additives that makes in ok to use China parts in China so still in business even if no more orders from other countries as old stock used up or new snuck in, say from India or worse. One thing I learned even with the best petcocks is once exposed to fuel better not ever let em dry out, so store in sealed jar of gas or may cry like infantile hobot with unexpected nonfunctional taps in the trash. Be suspicious some swollen decaying rubbery-ness might of bene conveyed to carb surfaces and passages, just saying from past bad man mood testing experiences.

Not sure if Nitrile can handle E Fuels ? , anyone done a test? the rubber in those tapes swelled up ,so proberly not synthetic.....just tree resin coloured black

The China made fuel taps with the rubber inserts are known for this problem and not recommended. Not so much swelling as the insert tends to rotate then the holes don't line up. Maybe another you should search here before buying. The strings on this subject were several years ago.

I don't think they have any rubber in China. As I remember they use recycled chewing gum.

Very little Chinese aftermarket parts are worth much. Chrome is crap, machining even worse and anything plastic or rubber stay away from.

Guess that's pretty much everything...except for the 5 point hardened bolts made out of pot metal they been sneaking in for years and are now holding the engines in our commercial airliners since they boxed them in fake American labeled boxes.

Look at what happened when Sparx moved manufacturing to China. I never thought I would see they day when "made in Japan" or "made in Taiwan" would be a good thing.

I think the Sparx stuff has always been made there? :?

The only fuel taps I ever use are the brass type with the tapered centre bit, that have been used by gas plumbers for centuries. Years ago I had bikes with taps with cork inserts, and some with slides which depended on seals to stop fuel leaks - all rubbish.

OMG! I remember those cork ones...and ones that had leather packings...dang are we ever old

Please realize we have been told a number of times by those dealing with China that they can make anything as good as anywhere else so its the companies placing the orders at a specified quality and price not some cheap China factory trying to cheat us though that is also well known risk dealing with the lower quality side of China, same as any where else that can get away with it. I've been to China and their stuff goes and goes as they can't afford to be breaking down much either and guess what happens to those selling crap in the homeland, ugh, show up on second hand used organ and food markets. Duh how do ya know if ya buying China taps?

OMG ? never expected this.

Price?

Never trusted the original taps, wherever they were made. I remember the OE taps on Commandos with plastic centres which alsways broke off. Hence introduced the taps 60-7266/60-7267 as an alternative to Andover Norton's parts range that I have been using on my own bikes since I first encountered them on late Meriden Triumphs: http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/Accessories.htm scroll down to bottom of page.

Those are the BAP's I also changed to in the late 80's and they do work, made in Italy but you have to look out for the Indian knock offs I have seen around in the last couple of years.
