Hi
I have replaced the oil seals in my commando timing cover, however the points oil seal spring gator keeps popping off.
The seal looks fine and the cover fits over the shaft, but is this important to be in place. I do not have the locating tool'

Thanks Neil.

If you dont have the right seal installation tool, use a socket of the exact same diameter as the cam with an extended bolt to retain the socket while you fit the cover.
Push the socket from the outside of the cover through the seal just a short distance , the seal will hold it , then mount the cover up to align cam, crank, spindle and screw holes. Dont push the cover flat until you have bolted up the socket to the cam. Tighten all and remove the retaining bolt and socket as the cam will now be through the seal.
You can always use a viton O ring instead of the spring if necessary.
Regards Mike
