Oil pressure switch

My upgrade was performed under warranty by Gold Coast. I've never had much oil in the airbox. Maybe a tablespoon, but no saturation. However, my bike was burning oil so bad that the rocker covers were so full of carbon they did a ring change and cylinder hone. Now my oil level hasn't dropped at all in 2k miles. Also, BPHORSEGUY, like your bike, it fires up most starts immediately, but I've never had more than a flicker of the oil light and even that's only 10% of the time after sitting for a week or two. That said, sure wish my fuel light would go on when I'm low on fuel. It doesn't. It only flickers when it feels like it.

Hello Again , As I said I would perform the test (1 week no riding my 961 oil pressure test) . First , verified I have oil on my oil stick , checked stick three times also with light looking in the oil tank. This is key ! There must be oil in the tank before starting. Second , started engine and timed the oil pressure build up to clear light . Time to build up : ( 5 seconds ) after 1 week of not running the engine. Slight hydraulic lifter noise until oil pressure up light cleared and then immediately lifters quiet. The last time I rode the bike was Sunday July 30th , 2017 so 6 days ago . So there you go , your oil tank must empty slowly and completely over time . The check valves in the breather kit should stop this and resolve your problem .

Should not the stock setup stop this if it is working properly. Was the oil at the bottom of your stick, do you have the stock stick or the longer one? Thanks Tony.

Hello , I am not sure what you mean by the stock setup ? You mean before I installed the oil breather kit ? I did not perform this test before now , so I cannot say how long to pressure up with an empty oil tank. But longer than 5 seconds for sure . My stick is the original from December 2014 so 110mm long or so. I can tell you for sure that MY oil tank would empty out in 24 hours for sure BEFORE the check valve update. So, there is nothing wrong with your bike . What you are experiencing is normal for a engine that has wet sumped its oil is all I am saying. And if you look in your tank after 24 hours , it would not surprise me if you find no oil in your tank. The update will fix this and you will be happier.

Most important question is: Does it harm the engine if oil tank is empty and you have to wait a while after starting till the oil light is out before you go to higher revs?
Don't think so...

Depends how much of the engine is fed by splash.

The sump is never empty , there is always some oil in there. Did you mean : Does it harm the engine if OIL TANK is empty and you have to wait ... ? Let me just say that we all agree that the shortest time to clear the oil pressure light is best. The bottom end of the Norton 961 is more like a two cycle engine than a 4 cycle with plain bearings. The big ends and mains are rollers fed by splash , but lifters also rollers require the pressure , this also lubricates the cam and top end. But I agree , that if it is allowed to idle and pressure up that no harm will come. A good oil will have residual cling to the parts inside so start up will not be entirely dry.

You are right, of course. I just corrected my post...
Thanks Tony

Guys, I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate your input. I think what is happening to my bike is happening to many and people just don't notice or are not posting about it.
