I'm in the process of building a 1973 850. I need to know how many shims should be used in the oil pressure relief valve. The Norton Parts List shows 5; Old Britts indicates "as required"; Haynes says it's set by the factory so don't change anything (this dosen't help if the valve is in pieces to begin with); British Marketing (no longer in business) suggested using enough shims to eliminate spring rattle when shaking the whole relief valve.
My 1972 750 (built by me) has been running for 10 years. I used the British Marketing method but still not certain if this is correct. Thanks to anyone that can help.
