Slang for oil tankOil bag?

They can insert a fibre optic into the finished tank to ensure it's not full of "slag or other damaging bits" as you put it.The oil tank is about the only place that I've never had leakage from on any British bike.
On a Commando it weighs just over 3 pounds.
If you are attempting to build a lightweight Commando, 3 lbs is a fairly large number.
If you are riding a stock bike, 3 lbs one way or the other isn't much.
The potential for slag or other damaging bits getting into the engine with after the fact homebrew OIF worries me.
I did build the Egli with OIF but it was all new tubing and I made sure the weld purge was effective with a trial run on scrap tubing.

In case you haven't ridden anything later than 1980, oil leaks are pretty much a thing of the past. That would be so cool that is until you get an oil leak that puts it all over your back tyre.
I weld repaired two OIF Triumphs, the swing arm pivot to main spine was cracked. Both bikes had high miles, one was 75,000. Like Bernhard’s post, the rear wheel was getting misted.
