UNIT isn't a warning, it is one of the display inputs that allows you to change the settings in the LCD which you can toggle through.  I had this regularly whenever my bike wouldn't start first time and subsequent attempts took the voltage way low (LOWV on the display), seems the lcd then throws a fit.  I then kept my battery on permanent trickle and eventually changed to lithium.  I haven't had this problem since those first few months
