I have two timing side case halves that both have casting marks (Birmal? I can't tell what the first character is) and number 20666, but there's another number punched in, one is 129 and another is 148. They appear to be identical (which I want). I'm just curious if anyone can tell me what the punched in number means?

Hi
Possibly machining numbers, both should be the same number for a matched pair of drive and timing side cases.
Usually numbers are internal?
Burgs

Once they started to machine a set of cases they stamped both halves with the same 3 digit number so if they got separated during a machining operation they could be matched afterwards.

Thanks kommando and Burgs. Yes I'm talking internal stamping. I'm good to go with the replacement I purchased due to a crack in the original.

1963 Atlas cases stamped internally with 43 for the record. Both of the Commando case sets I've worked on recently had 3 digit internal stampings.

Do these look original or a bit of a suspicious after the event stamp?
Just checked my 71 cases inside and they are very similar with the exception of mine being upside down 121 ;)

The ones on the back of the cases are some other internal factory identification the meaning being long lost.
