Hi All,
Anyone got ideas on what to use for sealing my tank? It's like a f$%^& teabag, I just spoke to someone on the phone who advertised in Classic Bike which sounded promising, I just wondered if anyone had used it(from Caswells U.K.) £17.99 +VAT & Del.

Thanks in advance for your replies, Hayabusaman

A friend used it on his glass roadster tank last year - Seems to do the trick so far.
He says there is enough left for 2 more tanks, so I might give the original Fastback tank I bought on the weekend a dose.

Anyone want to part with an original gas cap?

Phil

Caswell's epoxy is probably the best for fiberglass tanks. Do at least 2 coats though.

I second the two coat idea. It took two coats on my fiberglass Interstate tank and it was in pretty good shape. If your tank is pretty thin, I would consider 3 or even 4 coats. Since it is epoxy, there is a lot of strength in the coatings. BTW, be sure and rough up the surface good before coating. Roofing nails work great for that.

My first coat dried completely before I realized that I would need a second coat, but in your case when you know that you will be doing multiple coats, you should decide (by reading their instructions, etc.) exactly at which stage to apply the subsequent coats.

Also with mine, the directions said it should set up (the point where you can stop moving the tank around to keep the coating uniform thickness) in about 4 hours but it was more like 8 hours. Since mine was an Interstate, I needed quite a bit of solution to coat it so I only had to mix both parts as Caswell had measured them but if you have a smaller tank, then you are going to need to mix your portions correctly. Incorrect proportions will definitely affect the setting up.
