If those are the mufflers at the back , they look big enough .
If we put lights and indicators on , will it be suitable
for Highway use .

They are parachutes, high and low speed chutes. The exhaust goes out the top by the big GULF on the side. It has straight pipes that curve up and back then up again pointing at holes in the top cowling. Really fantastic twin norton motors.

Don't know if those two guys typically wear hats like that, but there was a silly hat contest so that may be why. I wish I knew what Hobbit looked like, I would have liked to meet him.

Is that mechanical fuel injection? The bodies look a lot like Hilborn throttle bodies we used to run on a gasser.

Just curious. Looks very well done, but I guess if I was going to go 300mph it better be damn well done.

Take care.

Yes sir old school pumped fuel injectors. It appears there's a local tradition growing on silly hats by famous folks from all over.
Video of me will be more entertaining I guarantee but hit ground running in more ways than one right now, so chow. hobot

My offer to spend money for Ms Peel's dyno runs was eagerly accepted by Big D's owner and crew, whoohoo! Almost got my fingers slapped touching the museum state display. BTW the engines in display are just stock 850's not the hot rodded version of real life.

Oh yeah the 4 headers end about exactly flush with top of the body work. Adds to the down force/higher pressure above and air venturi helps suck exhaust out I assume.

Who owns this now? It was built by Dennis Manning and team for Bonneville.
Dennis gave a slide show at one of the NCNOC meetings in the 80s of this.

I was at the Gear Grinders awards banquet a couple of years ago and talked to a guy who said he did the tuning on this machine. They had a stactic nitro engine and he was the one running it for the people there, I had my Norton shirt on and was watching. After it was shut down he came over and asked if I had a Norton, Well one thing led to another and the stories started. He said Dennis tried running it but laid it on it's side a few times and thought it may be better to bring in a guy named Boris Murray, Boris had a go at it and got it to go pretty good but they still had a lot of problems with the motors. The guy at the banquet said they had gone through a bunch of motors and the folks at Norton were not going to supply any more. I think it still holds the record for a one way pass for a Norton. :?:
