Norton factory bike nights 2019

I'm pretty sure the Breitling was among the Norton display over by the bbq area but didn't pay any attention to it. Saw a titanium CR being loaded up into a van heading out to the west country, 68 plate but didn't look as though it had been on the road, saw Roger's titanium, only titanium missing was yours! A red CR Anniv. pulled up outside sales, local owner, that red is a great colour with the sun on it.

& finally , there just had to be one of these ,without this seventies commando we wouldn’t have the 961,without the 961 we wouldn’t have the V4,New Atlas or the superlight
 
I didn't go to the last one as I assumed it had been cancelled like in previous year as they set up the car park for the Burnout weekend. Anyone thinking of going this Thursday? Weather looks promising.
 
I'm getting prepped to go to this one, weather looking good for the drive there and the return trip after dark is promising to be mild. Could be my last opportunity of the year, it's the 80mile return trip home in the dark as temperatures dip below 10deg that puts me off leaving it any later..... unless we get an Indian Summer :)

Wish I had now, ride there was not pleasant, first 30 miles and I considered turning around several times. Once past half-way I then hit the East Midlands commuter rush hour, which was a real balls ache. A good turn out, 5 possibly 6 961's, burger delicious as always, Mr Garner looked 'old and tired'. Ride home in the dark was wet and without rear lights (tail/stop/number plate) which every bugger on the road had to let me know by repeated flashing or putting hazards on (at least the plod weren't about), I might not have had them on the way there for all I know! Thank f*@k it wasn't the front that failed that's all I can say :)

I thought rear indicators were out at as well as I couldn't see them which got me busy thinking about earth points etc. but they were fine, so fingers crossed It's probably no more than the plug connector in the wheel arch but of course that's on top of the carbon rear license plate carrier so without an allen key set on me there was no point in stopping to check it, so I just tail-gated the cars in front all the way home.

I met up with and had a good chat with the owner of the red Anniv. CR I met in April, Alex, he has done a few nice mods, check out his LED headlight which adjusts it's aim on cornering!

He also mentioned that his friends titanium was back at the factory (the one I saw being loaded into the van) as it's paint finish needed attention.

I 'think' the green building is the new Atlas plant (to the left), I could be wrong as one of the staff said it might get to be put to use for V4 production, so the new Atlas plant might be on the other side of the complex.

Number plate light... blown bulb, no w5w in my spares so ordered some
Stop light.... blown filament, bulb replaced
Tail light.... chaffed/broken wire. Don't know what caused this to chaffe as the 'hump' is an empty void but it was close to the rough/sharp cutout in the plastic for the rear light unit so guess this was the cause. Anyways, easy fix and added extra tape to prevent it rubbing in the future.

I know the pot holes are getting seriously bad around these parts but to lose all 3 rear illuminations in one trip I must have caught something pretty dire, I think it was the roadworks about 5 mins from the factory where they are putting a new road layout/roundabout for a new housing complex, spare bulbs on order :)

Yes , had those go out too but not together. They are available as LED so maybe longer lasting ? The 1157 LED I put in does not seem as bright as the incandesant bulb. The bad roads , stiff suspension , and vibration all conspire against you .

I thought about led number plate light but went for the cheaper filament type, maybe next time. I have a 68smd tail/stop light which is really bright and I used it in my Thruxton but it is a little taller than the filament bulb, so if the red rear lens fits over I might try this.
 
I took my 961 out today for a quick 70 mile loop today after reading this. After 5 years of ownership I still like riding it !
 
The rear light wiring loom has now been bound in electrical tape, number plate bulb replaced (filament), stop/tail bulb replaced (68smd LED), even managed to take a few photos/measurements of the rear frame whilst the rear end was off just to get a few ideas about crafting an aluminium one.

Anyways, they say bad luck comes in 3's, I've just noticed that my rear Dunlop Qualifier is getting a 'flat' profile after just 3k miles, I thought the handling was a little quirky on the run to Donington so time to change it (they did say last service that it is ready for replacement, 800 miles ago :) ), on top of that I happened to peep into my shorty silencers looking for a lost washer (don't laugh), didn't see no washer but did find that the internal baffle on one of them is loose and free to rattle around :(
