Norton Accessory?

If I had nearly $6000 to spare, I can think of better things to spend it on!

Forget the watch; for that kind of money you have almost any nice Norton on e-bay right now.

Maybe in the US, but Commando prices have certainly risen in the UK recently, and only a handful of Commandos seem to be on UK eBay at any one time these days!

And here are some examples of recent UK eBay prices:

Non-runner, incomplete for restoration: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Norton-commando-8 ... 913.c0.m22 - bidding went to £2,607 GBP ($4,274 USD)!

Restored: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Norton-Commando-8 ... 7C294%3A50 - £6,600 GBP ($10,820 USD).

Asking £4,995 GBP ($8,189 USD) 'Buy it now'
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Norton-Commando-7 ... 286.c0.m14 - he might just get it?

A dealer asking £9,491 GBP ($15,559 USD) for a Norvil 920:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NORTON-NORVIL-COM ... 286.c0.m14 - a bit optimistic, and hasn't sold before.

It is intersting to see just how much more they are worth where they were made. I wonder if it is simple because of supply vs demand. I imagine more were originally made for export than the home market.
As far as the watch goes.
There will only be only 200 Bremont Norton chronograph mechanical watches made,
each watch is hand crafted at the Bremont workshop in Switzerland and they will
retail for £3,850 (inc vat).
I have not spent as much for ANY bike I have owned....the same for most cars too! It is a nice timepiece though.

Present value of today's U.S. dollar vs 1975 dollars, probably they don't cost "more" now than they did then. (Math is my worst subject, someone else can do the calculations and let me know if I'm talking out my rear end)

I suspect that too GP. In about 1975 I bought an eight acre farm in Maine for $15,000 with two houses on the property.

I think you misunderstood what Green Hornet meant?

As he said:

Not when they were made, meaning that a Commando would cost relatively more in the UK than it would do in the US.
Maybe the patriotism of the British classic bike buyer has had an influence on the UK price of British bikes, and Commandos offered for sale do seem to have been in fairly short supply in the UK lately, so it could also be down to supply and demand?
Becuase bank interest rates are so low at the moment, people have been spending their money on anything that is likely to have an investment potential, rather than leave their money in the bank earning a pitiful interest rate? Also I'd say that £1.00 GBP probably only buys you a similar amount of goods in the UK that $1.00 USD would buy in the US, as prices (because of profit margins on goods & services, fuel costs and taxes etc.) are generally higher in the UK (and Europe?), so it's not always a simple matter of currency conversion, as cars and motorcycles (and many other goods?) have always been cheaper in the US than in the UK.

I read that as when also. Since I correspond with folks on other boards such as Goldwings and Changs I know the price of these and parts are very dear in Britain also. I'm sure supply and demand and the higher taxation enter into it.
