Well, European Commandos having a hard time right now!

Pieros Fastback had a serious problem last weekend:
alternator-stator-explosion-t24674.html

And I slipped with my freshly restored 1970 Commando S on an unpaved road on my way on backroads to Lake Constance one week ago.

Piero and Rivera, I feel sorry for you guys, the damage to Rivera's bike looks not too bad, Piero will have a lot of work to put his bike right again.
 
This is what happens when you ride. Those of us with bikes in a glass case never have to worry! :-)

Bruised knees and some facial peeling when I kissed the grass on the roadside...it happened at about 15-20 mph. The original english Belstaff Jacket is only dusty, no damage.
Fork is twisted, don't know if something happened to the bridges.
And oh yes, the tank is dented and has some deep scratches. No spot repair possible.
 
No Luck...wha da ya mean? I would say that you had good luck in a bad situation---you are still healthy :D and I suppose you were able to ride home :) True it stinks, messin up your ride like that, but maybe you can get it back to 100% mechanically fit, and still have a couple of scar's that will add tons of character as you move forward, it is s rider after all and not just a trailer queen, right?. That's just my humble opinion though.......hey I'm glad your okay brother, I enjoyed your build thread, you did a great job on bringing that bike back from the brink. Cj

Martin, the Green Dot is still alive. It's only the glass and chrome ring which are dead. The instrument itself is ok.
 
Initially, I was wondering why that year of Commando still had the green dot on the tank. Then I realised the reference was to the marking on the instrument.

After all the outrage at the 1967 Earl's Court show over the lack of a "Norton" logo and those "green turn signals", I didn't thimk any of them made it to the street. As I remember, it took a couple of years to modify the tanks with a recess to take a "real" Norton badge, with a black decal being used in the interim.

Well, so much for European bad luck! Assuming things come in three's, we should be done.
What did we learn today? Don't push your bike through a doorway with a step down without first folding the side stand.

Most of what you see is old, oxidized shed paint that'll probably rub out, but that mark towards the seat is bare metal. Fortunately, it doesn't look to have dented the steel. To add insult to injury, I took some chunks out of my right knee as I feel in a heap on top of the bike (that's what probably caused the gouged paint).
