New wosp mk3 starter motor lms843 (2019)

Anyone try a wosp lms843 starter motor for mk3 commando. They are selling on ebay for 199 including shipping. Could be a good deal.
When I look on ebay, the wosp is $299. Where'd you get 199?

Hey Torontonian I am from Pickering what did you finally do with your starter I am in the process of an MK 3 rebuild and I am considering alternatives for the starter Thx Drummer99
Apologies about getting back to your Question years later , must have been out riding or fixing.
The DD starter works excellent and came installed on the bike when I bought it from a gent in South Ottawa. My concern was spinning and not engaging when cold. This year I got around to dismantling the primary to install a new 21 T sprocket and CNW 14 roller sprag with their hardened gears upgrade and a CNW clutch center. The 18 roller one fell into pieces on disassembly. I have another Prestolite starter rebuilt by a man in N.Y. using H.D. parts , 4 brush plate. It works well too but does not spin over as fast as the D.D. one and is quite heavy , but I keep it wrapped in plastic just in case . I used to fish in Pickering near the Nuclear power plant outflow in winter.

Deceptive advertising??? Bet it is NOT a gear reduction!
Pix show an absolute theft of my design. Detail changes only.
Limited Life time warranty except for sprag lock-up blow-up...?
Worth something in the USA-Canada, though the number of returns are exceptionally small.
Now 1150+ sold

I'm sure WOSP will blow up also on sprag lockups, None of these will stand up to 45,000rpm
copied in England...(china parts) If it was real Nippondenso parts it would cost a LOT more.
345 GBP in England... yet $199 in USA?

Looks like WOSP are also copying my friends car starter design...that I gave him and he started producing in around 1985. 5 years before WOSP !
My freind and I came up with my starter 06-4791B (showing it was not a "norton" part) in 2004 and the price was suggested by the members of the norton.com forum and has not change or gone up since then. That was the last published price for the prestolite product when they terminated the product.

good luck
Dear Dave, can / would you ship to Perth Western Australia, 6107? I am struggling with ye olde Prestolite and would like a reliable upgrade. Being in the design an manufacture game myself, it is very annoying to read that someone h as stolen your design. Apparently Amazon are also renowned for this.
Cheers Michael Sheil

I'm using the starter in question. The 'original' starter has more rigidity against the idler gear whereas the 'aftermarkets' are not supported in the outer case and can push away leading to stripped gears and horrible noises when the gears don't mesh.
Hi,
I received my new WOSP starter today, the first thing I noticed was the absence of support for the small gear as you mention and wonder if thus will be problematic.
My original stater I'm reconditioning with a NOS armature and converting to 4 pole.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, just not in the case of Mk3 starter motors.... To say that someone has 'stolen your design' is a strong statement. If the design of whatever had a valid patent then yes, the statement holds true. At the end of the day these are quite simple electric motors.
I converted a NOS harley starter years ago and have been doing them, a few a year since then. I found out CNW sold what looks like the exact same conversion. I was not in anyway put out. I did my conversion by first using the four pole frame from a 5780BN harley replacement and used the prestolite internals (works but could be better) I then machined up a new drive end plate and altered the harley rotor to suit the commando so taking all the 5780 bits i had a 'new' four pole starter. I did all this by myself, unaware of the CNW version of the 5780BN.
Getting to the matter of how much this all costs is where this get people wobbly.
A CNW 5780 converted starter motor is $539. The Harley 5780 BN can be bought for as little as $70 on ebay and that is the item sold to joe public. The trade price for these starters would be in the region of $50
The Dyno dave/WOSP/HNW/Norvil/RGM types are based on a nippon denso. Whoever converts them will buy them in as cheap as possible, convert to commando spec, and then punt them out for as much as they think they can, without pricing themselves out of the market. An earlier post in this thread alluded to that fact 'the price was suggested by the members of the norton.com forum' Obviously WOSP could see a market for doing their conversion at a much lower price.
At the end of the day you pay your money and make your choice.
Personally i like the look of the prestolite/5780BN motor over the DD/WOSP types. I think they look like they have come off a washing machine.
