Just wanted to give a quick hello, you will be seeing me here a lot since I decided to take on a 71 750 commando project. It has been sitting for year and the kick start will not grab. I took apart the gearbox/trans, and found the catch/tooth that runs in side of a ring gear on the end of the splined shaft for the kick start is chipped. Meaning it will not grab when kicking. I'll take a photo if needed, but does anyone know where to find gearbox parts individually. Thank you. Anyone out there from Broward Florida?

Wes Scott in Oakland Park should have the part on the shelf.

4608 NW 8th Terrace, Oakland Park

(around the corner from the 'Happy Hocker' pawn shop, which you can see from I-95).

Just about everything I needed for my 850, I got from Wes. Kinda convenient to just stop by and pick up the part, plus he often has a used part if you don't need brand new.

What you are describing is the kickstart pawl. A common failure point. You will need to order part #062015 and should be available from most Norton parts dealers.

I don't know of any local to you, but since you are on the internet, Google Old Britts, Walridge Motors, Rabers, DomiRacer, or Fair Spares America. Most have on-line or phone order and the US mail can have it to you quickly.

Old Britts has a nice parts explosion for each section that can be useful in finding part numbers.

Just send me your address and I could send you a good used one if you want, No charge. Just the cost to ship it, P.M. your address, Chuck. :)

Hi. I grew up in Broward County and used to go to a place called Broward Motorsports to get my Norton serviced. Let me know if you meet anyone who knows of it. They had a mechanic there who showcased some beautiful Brit race/cafe bikes that were left in the showroom. It was a great place to smell the rubber and dream.

Wes Scott used to work there, 30-something years ago. There's another local guy, Dave Boyer, who also used to work there, and now runs a museum in Ft. Lauderdale, full of some of the most amazing bikes I've ever seen.
Link is here:http://www.specializedmotorsllc.com/museum.php

The pictures on the website only cover a fraction of what's there. To me, one of the most amazing rooms was stacked chin-high with old race bikes, mostly Rickman chassis, waiting for restoration.
