Hi all, I am new to this forum and have joined in the hope of getting a little help to identify a frame I have inherited. It is an older rigid frame ( modified) with numbers stamped on the right side of the neck with the prefix N 6 numbers and the suffix P. If this sounds familiar to any of you guys I would really appreciate the assistance. Cheers.

Hi, the frame number on rigid frames is on the front down tube tank mounting lug and stamped on the left side.

Norton lug and casting numbers often begin with an 'N*' A photo or two would help, and as Horror says, have a good look at the cast lug which supports the front of the fuel tank. There should be a number stamped there on the drive side.

Not sure how to add photos yet. Numbers are on the head stock though, not on the down tubes or back bone.
Cheers

No part of that frame is anything that came from Nortons, its all new.
That steering head angle makes it likely it was a chopper style.
Hopethishelps.

Check out the chopper thread here on the forum, it might give you some inspiration on which way you want to go with your build. Cj

I would also hazard a guess that no Norton engine was ever fitted into this frame, the frame rails and mounting points seem too narrow.

Cheers guys, yeah based on the shape it was a 70's built chopper. I've got a pretty good idea of the direction I like to go with the build but I'm hesitant to start until I know the frames heritage.
Harleys I can tell straight away but this one had me stumped. Looks like a Trumpy to me but the numbers don't match, Norton seemed like the most logical next option.

It does look like it may have been intended for a Turnip unit engine.
Looks pretty short in the engine bay to fit a non-unit Norton engine and a gearbox...

Those bottom tabs look too narrow for the lower castings of a Triumph lump.

Nothing Norton nor Commando related to that frame as the mounts are not even close to isolastic locations nor cradle or engine mount points. Looks more like Triumph intended which is a pretty engine shape and sounds great and power enough to make ya grin. It does look the part for a righteous chopper just not on this forum per say.
Here's the Commando chopper thread for sense of what it ain't.

Cheers for the assistance guys, I'll follow the triumph lead. It does seem set up close enough to trumpy style of mounts to make a start.
Keen to have a go at a chopper style bike. Although also not suited to this forum, this is my last build

You want to look in some old 70s chopper magazines to I.D. it . plenty were advertised with pictures .or Big Bike had that sort of thing .
As long as it steers and doesnt spit you off , theres nothing wrong with a good drag race frame . :D :p  8)
