I buy quite a bit on eBay and once in a while, from someone in China. I placed an order after making all the checks I could for a real company in China. I even asked some questions about the product to make sure they answered and through eBay. There is no reason why they would have my email address and they did answer properly through eBay.
So, I completed the deal and paid via PayPal. Almost immediately I got an email directly from a company in China by a different name wanting me to click a link to get a "Remittance Advice". I don't click links in emails so I'm safe. I logged onto eBay to get the number to report the possible scam and there is none now! So, I clicked to cancel the order explaining what happened. eBay sent the cancellation to the company, and the company immediately sent a message through eBay saying they didn't email me - maybe they didn't and they are a fine company, but I won't take that chance.
So, I don't know if the seller is legit but the order is not shipped and they have a cancel requests. If they don't cancel and do ship, I'm OK. There is no doubt in my mind that if I clicked that link in the email that I would be hating life today!
If anyone I know sends me an email with a link, they have to tell me that they did before I consider clicking, and then I hover my cursor over the link and see what the link actually points to. If I don't know the sender, I do not click!
