Hi All

I've never done anything with disc brakes before and felt it was about time. My '74 Roadster has the usual front brake woes. So, after mulling it over for far too long, I finally broke down and got the Norton front brake master cylinder upgrade. But the hose enclosed is waaay to short - about 5 inches from what I can gather. The bike has been using a Hype SS hose and the original pipe/bracket assembly is long gone. I assume it would probably fit with the in place. Oh, and I have the UK bars. Anyone else had this issue? Thought I'd ask others more knowledgeable than myself before contacting the supplier!

What follows are far too many questions outlining my confusion over the matter...

I could re-purpose the Hyde hose in place of the one with the kit but one of the fittings is damaged. I'm not sure what to call it and what size it would be... Are these standard or particular to British/Italian/American/Japanese... And where I could find one... Would my friendly neighborhood bike shop stock these? Or could you suggest an online source? As for the washers, what would I call them? What are the sizes for these things (assuming its a standard).

Another dumb question... Teflon tape with brake fittings - yes or no?

Thanks!

There is some sort of standard to brake parts, but not sure what it is - BSP, NSP ??
Take the old one to your local brake or bike shop and see it they can help ?
Harley, rather than Honda perhaps....

Teflon tape is not needed, the parts seal from the cone shaped flare in the metal to metal contact.
At the enormous pressures developed in brake hoses, teflon would just squirt out....

Many thanks for your reply. Totally makes sense about teflon tape and the pressure. I've been looking online at fittings but I'm not entirely sure what to call it, other than a fitting. That term covers a fair bit of ground.

Double ended hose joiner, or connector. ?
That probably covers a lot of ground too....

The Norton master cylinder thread size is 3/8 x 24. Go to the fragola website for the banjo bolt below :

Also order the -3 x 3/8 banjo below:

Then, just order the plastic coated stainless steel brake hose (best kind IMO) in the length that you need. :D

They also carry all the fittings and adapters you may want as well. Worth it to download their catalog and have a look see. Hope this helps. Cheers.
