Hi All - I've decided to record the story of my attempt to restore my '74 basket case (in real time). I've started a blog, and I'd like to invite anyone interested in Nortons to subscribe to it and follow my progress as I try and bring my Commando back to life. I'll still be using this forum a lot, so your advice both here and on my blog is most welcome.

Very nice. I had thought about keeping a blog but in the end just recorded everything here.
 
I couldn't find a really detailed blog on a Norton restoration anywhere, so I thought it might be useful for others embarking on similar insanity. Feel free to subscribe and offer comments/suggestions/advice.

I'd say some of the build threads here on this forum are pretty detailed. I know I certainly like to over-document, which I believe everyone here will concur. :mrgreen:

In a quest to get specific answers I've had to create issue-specific topics but that's typically how a forum works.

This forum, I think, is invaluable, but quite different from the kind of continuos and consistent narrative supplied by a blog. And you said it: with the kind of emotional and mental commitment involved in a restoration, I definitely share the impulse to over-document and reflect. Please continue to share your thoughts as I move forward with my project.

We have fun on this forum but serious needed info is usually answered almost imediately.
Need something ask as I have done and answers just happen.
I'm going to sort out my gear box soon and have been follwing swooshdaves postings w/ pics.
It is a big help believe me.

HI, Funny, I have been taking pictures of my Norton restoration project also. Havent had time to really put it in a blog format, but I am updating my Flickr page.
Its a 1971 Norton Commando I bought from the Original Owner. He wrecked it in the early 70s. When the Norton shop was repairing the bike the original owner sprung for the "new and fancy" disk brake front end (this is why I dont have a drum).
Ayway, i am almost 90% complete, just need some time and a few more bucks'.

great pics there Tyler.I love the cables in the headlight that a good idea.I love the black with silver trim too it looks sharp.

You ought to start another thread, insert the narrative and just paste photo links in...

Welcome, looks like you are going first class. I am posting on this forum with my project. Some parts still all over the floor.

If you want to get rid of that chromed rear fender, I may be interested, depending on shape and price.

Hey Dave,
well, If you look real close at the pic of the fastback cowl, you will see what happen to that rear fender. I found it impossible to find a "fastback" rear fender, so since my standard fender wasnt perfect, I modified my fender.

Hi Luke

I too had a basket case such as yours and It's now approaching completion it's a 750 John Player Replica.
I've tried to keep track of all the jobs I've completed and all of the modifications that I've added to it but have failed miserably, I hope you manage to keep your blog up to date it'll be an interesting read,do you actually have a donk and box for it? I've taken a few pictures of mine during the build but as yet I've not posted any on the site.
I'll visit your blog to see how your going.
