Hi All
I would still like to see some pics of the fuel line set up that some are using,

Would be nice to find some black clamps that don't look like radiator hose clamps from Pep Boys. I know it is functional but yerrrrgggg. Nothing against your bike Peev. Otherwise the carbs don't look too bad on there.

Hi

Thanks for the pics, will look for some tee peices before the weekend.

Ashley

The part I am looking for is a 4 way Tee that looks like this

TT

Which would go between the two petcocks and have the two petcocks feeding the straightthrough part and then two separate fuel lines each coming off the 4 way Tee and on to the carbs.

Jim's carbs have 1/4" hose barbs on them and I'd be more comfortable if I had 5/16" fuel lines coming off of the petcocks feeding such a 4 way Tee with 1/4" lines downstream from there to each of the carbs. So the straight through barbs of that 4 way tee would be 5/16" and the two 90* barbs would be 1/4"

5/16" can't be used all around because the distance between the carb barbs and the carb body is too tight; they appear to be designed in contemplation of the Japanese style 1/4" ID non reinforced black rubber or silicone fuel line material, which, of course, is of a thinner wall thickness.

The Japanese style zinc plated single wire spring clamps are probably the best option, although it seems to me that we ought to be able to squeeze the black spring band clamps, as pictured above onto the thin wall silicone fuel line in 1/4"

Sudco has some. Maybe one of these would work.

I have black spring clamps for 1/4" ID fuel line, I have brass "T"s for the 1/4" line and I have zinc plated clamps for the carb barbs. I also carry the 5/16" "T"s and fuel line, but do not recommend them for twin carb installations as they will get in the way. I wil post a picture of these goodies tomorrow when I get to the shop.

Couldn't you go straight across from one tap to the other, with a T piece in the middle, straight on to another T piece,
forming a H pattern, then down to the Carbs.
AC.

Hi

I have got new tee peices and new hose as well hose clamps today so I will work something out as I go, I think I will start with what AC said and try that first, it all depends where every thing sits and what room there will be with out no sharp turns.

Purchased my PWK's from Jim about 8 months ago. After a bit of trial and error, this is how my fuel lines are set up. +1 Aussiecombat's suggestion. A little untidy to look at, but working well so far. No issues even at WOT.

I did a pattern like this to begin with. The lines that take a sharp bend down to the carbs, particularly the left, began to kink when heat got to it and starved the system. If these are not preformed to retain an open flow, problems could ensue. This is why I changed it to the big loop.

Hey gw88
What kind of aircleaners are those, model # etc?

Some of the air cleaner clamps come to me supplied with the carbs, and yes - somethimes I supply the convenient hardware variety.

According to Sudco, PWK carbs were designed by Keihin and then contracted out to PWK. I advertise them as "Keihin design" which they are. Whether they are actually made by PWK or custom made by someone else, I don't know. But I will keep offering them because they are so well suited to our Nortons. I designed custom needles for them or they wouldn't work at all. A lot of time is spent chasing down every detail such as making cables and hand finishing the manifolds. Lately I have been refinishing the needle jets to insure accuracy & consistancy. Some parts such as main and idle jets come separately from Sudco and are offered as options.

See the simple fuel line arrangement I use. The brass T is from Napa I think. I use foam aircleaners because they rub my modified atlas oil tank.

I just am wondering about all this " modern carb stuff" was the first reason to try to use alternative carbs due to the lack of reliability of Amals ?? And now that it seems that problem has been overcome is there still such a need for using "modern carbs" ? I have to admit I want a pair of fully gone through Amals mostly because they look so much nicer then any others & they are original to the bike & I may be quite wrong but aren't they much better at lasting then they used to be given all the upgrades to them?

In my case, I just wanted something that would last longer than the Amals. I look at used Amals and there is evidence of wear on the slides, the slides on my 1977 RD400 look just like new, no wear, no marks. Sure the Amals can be fixed, but why buy something and then spend more to get them fixed :?: For a rider, go for a modern carb, for a 100% original, get Amals.

Here is a picture of the spring clips, the "T" and the band clip that I offer with the Mikuni kits I sell for Norton, BMW, Triumph and BSA. The business card is the standard size and the clips/"T" work well with fuel line that has 1/4" ID.

Your twin flatslide carb setup has certainly been getting rave reviews here on the Norton forum and having read so much good about them, I'm also considering trying a set. A few of my local motorbike cronies have mentioned that they do not feel that my standard freshly overhauled 750 with older Boyer would benefit from them. It is said the modified motors will but not mine, especially considering how slowly I ride these days. What can I expect from a stock 750 in normal easy going use? I love power, but value easy starting and sweet running even more.
