I want new alloy rims for my MkIII and would like to know what route is better to go with. Get the standard dimpled rim or upgrade to the shouldered rim? I would like to go with the strongest option so I am assuming shouldered is the way to go.

I live in an area with somewhat rough roads, not too bad but there is a boat load of potholes in the spring.

I have been looking at getting the wheels built by Buchanan.I assume these guys are good. Anyone know of a place in Canada to get the Excel rims from and wheels built?

Walridge Motors in southern Ontario can build you a set of wheels

Excell

I've put some "flat" Excell on my MK2 (with Mk3 rear wheel) I don't like the dimple, it gets dirt inside and it's a pain to clean...But if I was making a -60' Cafe racer I'll use them!

They make a flat rim, but not in the shouldered option. How are they holding up?

Do you have any contact info? Do they stock Excel rims? Thanks.

Coco , don't worry about the stength of the rims . Actually most alloy rims sold for street bikes are still too heavy . Tagasako Exell rims for scrambler bikes (moto cross) are much lighter . If they can sustain jumps of 30 meters I suppose they can also handle the occasional pothole .
(if not : sue your local government )

Thanks Ludwig. I assumed they would be more than fine. I am just not familiar with the excel brand name.

Thanks Phil, I'll give them a call today. I am going to sort all of this wheel business out over the winter.

East Coast Wheels?

:?: Anybody here ever deal with East Coast Wheels? www.eastcoastwheels.com They have a huge selection, tons of colour options, powdercoating and anodizing services. These guys seem like they know their stuff.

Rims

I checked out their website, let's just say they aren't exactly giving them away. I mean $250+ bucks for a plain steel rim, I didn't bother to see what they get for aluminum.

Alloys are only around $150-$165 a rim. Not bad and thef ellow ffrom East Coast Wheels was the only guy willing to answer my questions so I'm buying them from east Coast, and Jeff is a super friendly guy who was eager to help so they are getting my business.
