You all have at your disposal, a method of preventing blueing-what I do when I put a rebored engine together is to run a rich mixture for the first ten miles in order to put a small carbon coating on the new piston crown, this will allow the piston run slightly cooler and put some carbon inside the exhaust pipes those pilot adjusting screws are not just put there for fun - you can make them work for you.

Slick, I understood that it also is the result of the copper plating that is used to ensure good adhesion of the chrome to the head pipe. That is, chrome adheres poorly to steel but well to copper while copper adheres well to steel, resulting in an industry standard of copper plating under chrome plating. Also, the copper is a good fill coating that can be polished before the chrome is applied.

Don't forget the nickel, which is plated on after the copper and before the chrome. Nickel gives plated parts 90% of their appearance and chrome is just a thin flash over it, adding hardness and shine.
