N15: the gearbox is matching numbers?

Hi.
As far as i know, and the mine too, Atlas and P11 do not have the gearboxes matching numbers with frame/engine and have a number less.
The N15?.

Nyet, Piero, no matching numbers in the N15CS either.
(and you shouldn't be leaving out the CS ?).

It uses the Matchless version of the AMC box, tucked up tightly to the engine - with different mounts.
So uses the somewhat mysterious Matchless sequence of numbering.
Although, being better organised than Norton owners (and more numerous ?), the North American Matchie Owners have gathered together quite a list of sample engine and gearbox numbers and year details.
Unfortunately I don't have a copy, nor is it online (I think).
Maybe someone can quote from it if you quote your gearbox number ?

Hi Rohan.
My Atlas gearbox is NA and five numbers.
My P11 gearbox is P11 and five numbers.
I knowh the Matchless gearbox is MA with five numbers.
But my N15 CS gearbox is N7987, only four numbers!
???

Is your gearbox shell exactly like this, or different ?
(its shown upside down).
Note especially the alignment of the lugs top and bottom...

This in the picture is a Commando one.
Mine is like the P11 one.

And N15??? Has a letter as prefix? Or MA (Matchless)?

We are still exploring here that you have the right gearbox Piero, without any pics supplied !
It does sound like you have the correct box.

You don't mention what year your N15CS is, but early N15CS could easily have low numbers,
the N15CS only started circa 1962, and they wouldn't have made too many of them per year.
Be nice if other early N15CS owners could chime in to confirm this....

My N15 is a 1967 with engine 118... .
Frame and engine are matching and the gearbox has a N prefix with only four numbers.
About the gearbox the question remains this: Atlas is NA and five numbers; P11 is P11 and five numbers; G15 is MA and five numbers.
N15 gearbox?
