My Steps to Apparent Ownership

If you update your profile with an approx. location, you may find local people to help. Right now, we don't even know what country you are in so our options may not be valuable.
Went looking at a way to do that and the best I could see is to add it to my signature. Anyway I am from Phoenix, AZ.

At the top right you'll see your userid. Click it and then click Account Details. In there you can set many things including your location. Of course, the signature is fine too. If you click Members on the top you can select Member Map where you'll see that there are two members in your area - unfortunately, they haven't given much info.

I believe that is a late 1974 MK2a, It most likely will have the defective Lay shaft bearing in it. Plan on at least $500.00 to replace it along with a full mechanical inspection. Good luck finding a good mechanic.
Thanks, and thanks for the heads-up on the bearing. Hopefully have identified a decent mechanic.

In my experience, every Norton trans should be looked at, I've found one in a Combat. And I took one out of a customer's bike, that the brass cages were breaking up and it was well on its way to failure. I guess I had higher standards than any other "mechanics." I had to test drive the bikes and the customers weren't about to pay the hospital bills and the Workers Comp if TSHTF.
I split my new MK2A trans case in two, I blew the whole back of the case off ,Pulling a hole shot, the bike was still on warrantee. And the dealer warranteed it with a Quaife case and a rebuild. No Charge! I did leave a long oil trail and the tire was spinning like a top in it.

Got it. Thanks.

Being your own mechanic is always an option. That’s what I and many others do.

I will look. I am absolutely stunned by the amount of online presence associated with this bike! To say nothing of parts and mods availability.
As you are discovering, the Commando may be the best supported classic bike of all time. We are fortunate to have available to us many suppliers and knowledgeable people. I don’t think this is an accident or coincidence , just a result of many people recognizing what a wonderful old ride the Commando is .Let us not forget the valuable information available to us on this wonderful Access Norton site .
A big tip of the hat to Jerry Doe and all his hard work keeping it going.

Contact your local Norton club. Many nice, well cared for bikes and aging owners with multiples.
Aging owners eh , Russ ? Hmm . Who could that be ..

To me,one of the most beautiful things about these motorcycles is the access to information and parts availability throughout the world.Plus they are a joy to ride and look at.

Bike sold before I got there. Thought I had an understanding. My fault. Pretty gutted. Well back to the search.
I just saw what looked to be a pretty good deal on a 'high rider" that could easily be reverted to a Roadster, Interstate, or whatever, with a more or less "no cost" swap if you re-sell the H/R parts. I'll see if I can find that link...

You better hurry! $3,000 OBO

GROOVY....
That is so Funky I'd leave as is and have fun with it.
Then again, I already have a few Roadsters...

Thanks for the listings! Had researched some mechanics in the area - found a couple that work together and was pretty comfortable with knowing I can rely on them. Emailed them to let them know that the deal had fallen through and to let me know if they knew of any bikes. They had just completed a "resurrection" and were looking to move it on for what it had cost them. "Fred" is now mine and will deliver tomorrow. 1975 Roadster. Frank Del Monte of Arizona British Bikes and his mentee Kevin Brown of Vintage British Motorcyles did the work and posted the process on YouTube. Link to the first video below for anyone iterested.

Good luck. You're fortunate to have an experienced Norton mechanic in your area. I haven't been able to find anyone willing to work on my fully restored '72 Combat in the entire Houston, Texas metropolitan area ever since I acquired it a couple of years ago. Slowly learning to do some minor things myself and hoping I don't ever run into anything major while I own it (would probably have to haul it up to Big D Cycles in Dallas if that happened). Fortunately, it's currently running great.
