My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornados?

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

I would roadrace that in a heartbeat. My friend has two 650 tornados, one is in street trim and the other is set up for flattrack racing. Those bikes sure like to rev. You will have some fun with that one! :D

Looks good LC,
It will make a lovely classic cafe racer. How do the vibrations compare,? Euro should be pretty smooth.
AC.

Well I havnt ridden it around much as its not registered but from all the reviews of it back in the day its not bad once your moving.

Although it literally walks around the shed when idling on the centre stand :)

The box of parts only had the original spedo which was helpful and I spent $50 on a 'workshop' manual from Denmark which turned out to be a A5 photocopied riders manual so the project has stalled somewhat

Ive been considering going for the full fared look like the 350/4 or 250/4s of the day

Spoken to Airtech and they said their CB750 faring will fit http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/hon ... 969-77.htm

but postage is $375 plus taxes which is extremly expensive considering the fairing is only $277

I tried joining the Benelli forum twice but havnt made the cut for some reason and the "no Homers" club wont return my emails

This bike is proving difficult, especially to restore from Australia, I may have made a mistake here

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

I was lucky enough to race against the Benelli 4 at Mid-Ohio last year. It sure sounded cool, but with all the hype surrounding it being there and raced, I was very disappointed. I saw the bike when the green flag dropped and then I saw it when I passed it right after that, 8 laps later I saw it in the pits after the race.

I understand that its a very unique piece and most likely impossible to replace, but I only signed up for that class because of all the hype about how fast it was supposed to be and I smoked it on a 500 Indian Enfield

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

With what looks like a single leading shoe front brake, how well does it stop? The 2ls front drum on the Commaqdo was a serious deficiency until some time after I left the company. I believe we got it from an Italian manufacturer, Cmpagnolo, I think. It should have been a lot better than it was. The stiffening kit helped some.

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

It is a single leader but on both sides. The year previous were 4LS but the brakes were considered a bit touchy so the went back to 2LS

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

Do you mean they were Double leading on both sides, man they would be touchy.
What brand of Carbies LC.?

Re: My new purchase, who knows anything about Benelli Tornad

lcgtr,
Persevere old chap, you have a real beauty there and it's only nuts and bolts like a Norton. Whatever specialist information you require will be out there with a bit of concentrated research.

Best of luck with it.

I've had my eyes out for one of those for a while now...no personal experience but everything I've heard is EXTREMELY positive. Best of luck with yours (you know you stole it from right under me, right? 8) )
