Hi guys,

I bought my commando in bits with boxes of junk(?) I figured if I post a few pictures maybe you can answer some questions or explain what they might be...

First up looks like a lightened/stress relieved set of rockers, the shafts look different to the ones on my other (newer?) motor.

Second & third photos:
The head looks different too, oil galleries/feeds go in from the top and the ports are a little smaller as well as a nasty bump to clear the head studs in the ex-ports.
Guides are shot but I found a bunch of guides including two new sets, one set in colsibro(?) and one set of iron(?).
I reckon the head would come up nice if I port it gently, fit new guides and cut the seats, valves look ok too.

Finally, the cylinders, the fin shape does not match the head snd there is a raised collar at the top that does not fit inside the head either, is this commando or something else..? Atlas, Triumph...?
I measured it at +20 thou (+ a couple of thou wear) the ridges at the top measured at about 3-4 thou, so a +30 though rebore or hone would clean it up.

I'll post more pictures as I find bits snd scratch my head....

The cylinder is easy to identify, it has the odd, small 5/16 head bolt holes and spigots that the early Atlas had. The head is a later Atlas piece, that does not match the cylinders. So you have a hodge-podge of parts there.

That head can probably be made to fit that cylinder if you have the spiggots ground off the top of the cylinder - and have 4 step down bolts made up that fit the 4 boltholes around the spark plugs - the threads into the cylinder need to be smaller diameter than commando bolts (and the bolt part in the head needs to be larger than Atlas bolts, or it will just rattle around, not optimal).

Just make sure all the bolt holes/studs in the head line up/correspond perfectly with the holes in the cylinder, Nortons did some odd things back then, and not all will always correspond...

I have no intention of using these bits, they are surplus as I bought a complete engine for my project.

Any ideas what they might be worth..?

Mike
