Hello gentlemen! It is a sad day today. I put my 66 Atlas and my 61 Matchless on Ebay. The surgery on my right knee is having some complications, (mainly no cartilage, a few pins and screws, and stage 3 arthritis), and my left knee looks like it may have to get cut on soon as well. I just do not think that even when I finish the projects I will be able to kick them over. It would be pure torture to have them and not be able to ride them. But don't feel too bad, I do have a matching pair of Thunderbird Sports in the garage! lol I put both of them up on ebay. I wanted to get the word out here so that one of you guys may get first dibs on them. In hindsight I may be willing to trade for a Commando 850 Electric start. Just reach out to me if you have any questions.

Sorry to hear about your knee;
Can’t you buy one of those foreign bikes with a left hand kick-starter :?:

britbikemike do you still have the atlas?? I have a 75 lectric start and maybe we could trade ....Cj

Mike:

This will sound a bit like sacrilege from an ex-Norton guy, but you might want to look into getting a Honda CX-500, particularly the turbo-charged version. Electric start, water-cooled, shaft drive. Personally, I think it's one of the best Hondas ever and the perfomance belies the fact that it's only a 500.

Really?
A MK3 for an Atlas?
Are you really going to trade smooth for shaken but not stirred? :)

Or, if you don't want a turbo how about a CX650?

It's my other '75 which is a number matching example but still a project bike, thought I might try and see what all this featherbed stuff is all about. With a set of light weight pistons and the right balance factor it could be worth looking into. Ashman swears by his 850/featherbed and has been riding it forever and Jims piston/rod combo have the right idea behind them, might just make for a nice ride, and be a little different too (at least for me anyway). There's one on here for sale at 7 grand which is out of my price range but looks to be a good deal considering what you get and the work already gone into it. (hell who am I kidding 5 bucks is outa my price range at the moment) Cj
