Its been very nice to meet Murray. He is the President on the NZ owners club. He flew from NZ to Chicago and purchases a nice MK3 on ebay. He drove 13 hrs return to Minneapolis to collect the bike. Gave it a once over in Dixon Illinois, changed the rear tire/ tyre, pannier (see photo) where Tim Smith really helped (Tim if you read this Murray says thanks) rode to Iowa and back to Chicago, where it broke down 20 miles out of Chicago due to a charging issue. Fitted a new battery to get to a friends place in Bollingbrook Illinois. Solid state rectifier had failed! Went to Morries Place (Thanks again Tim he said) Ribbonwood/ Illinois, just north of Chicago. Murray said they were friendly and helpful. Left Chicago and he rode to the American pickers shop in le Claire Iowa on the banks of the Mississippi river. Then he went to the American national motorcycle museum in Anamosa. He rode across Nebraska, where I met him. We met via phone calls and emails from NZ.
Yesterday we rode over to see Eric and others from the Colorado Norton Club. And had a great day, sorted the bike for todays long ride.
We left my place near Denver this morning and are now heading down through Colorado to Delores in South Colorado. Then Murray is going to head of over to Nevada and I am heading back home. What a great trip. Nice to get out. I am on the the rolling armchair (Harley). Really good to see the MK3 he bought running well.
Cheers Jerry
