Item 23 in this diagram, a clip that holds the 2 oil hoses. What bolt is that supposed to be fastened with?

mouting the oil hose clip

manufacturing may have changed over the years.
I have several, maybe 1/2 dozen, and they are of two distinct sizes.
I often survey if bikes have them and it is about 1/2 of them.
I feel they help reduce tank bracket breakage since the hoses thrust against them instead of the tanks taking the full thrust/pull. Of course the stiffer the hose like stainless braided is shooting yourself in the foot. I put a generous loop of soft hose. There is virtually NO PRESSURE in the lines so what is the aeroquip lines for? I don't even use the hose coil rapping. The engine tranny and filter all vibrate as a unit and have never seen a hint of abrasion on either of my commandos.

I'm also at that stage of trying to reinstall the clip... and finding it a tough fit, i can get one hose in comfortable, but 2 is not going to happen. I also find the 3/8" bolt isn't really long enough to get proper engagement of the the thread ( 1-2 threads sticking out the end) with the wire clip. i can see why they never get re-install.

Dynodave; just to confirm the hose routing.
1 , return hose comes from engine inside tube sneaks between the cradle and behind the gearbox, to the right filter bracket tube.

2. the filter exit from the filter center routes diagonally back and up, (it does not go back through the gearbox cutout in the cradle).

3. obvious, engine oil supply from tank banjo to the outside tube at the engine.

Those clips are brilliant. I have one on my Commando and my T140.

But I don’t use them on the oil lines. I use them as front brake hose guides!

Need correct longer bolt? mine fits just fine. On return line from the filter to the tank, mine ARE routed through the cradle gearbox hole then through the wire holder, then up to the oil tank line. I don't bother with the ?spring wrap? stuff on either return line. And I only use regular WOG/fuel line, not the high pressure stiff fuel injection or stainless braided. I want my tank mounts to survive...
Remember if it is a bit of a drag to get the hose through it shows the clip is working to isolate the engine motion from the frame mounted oil tank.

i can see that if the oil filter return is routed back through the GB cradle opening then getting the wire clip to hold both should become easier. my hoses look fairly new and have the braided jacket cover, so reasonably flexible, but no spiral armour jacket in place. i think i will stick with the shortest distance between two points.

thanks all.
