Hello Everyone.

As you know if you have been a forum member fir a while we had a MOST IMPROVED contest. The winner was Karl Hoyt with "Strunzo". I finally got it together to post Karl's write up with some cool photos. I wanted to say congrats again to Karl. This is an interesting read: http://www.jerrydoe.com/mostImprovedNorton.html

Most Improved -- Karl Hoyt -- Strunzo

Sorry for the delay on posting this,

Jerry

Great story Karl. Give you plenty credit on that restoration. Not sure if I would. Congratulations on Most Improved. Happy Riding!

Karl, that is a tremendous effort and story. You actually make is sound like it was fairly straight forward; which I'm sure is absolutely not the case. From the before pictures I would have thought that it was an impossible task - although you have a skill set (welding electronics painting and wheel construction) that some of us will envy. I'm interested in at least one similarity in your project to mine - the contribution of your better half to the project (mine has just come into the room and made a point of the fact that I am wasting time on this site when I should be working....); it seems to be a reasonably common theme with members; maybe Debby can give some pointers on how to bring peace and harmony into a relationship where old bikes have a place...

Beautiful work Karl,
to me there's nothing like seeing what was once a great machine that had fallen to the ravages of time, become a great machine once more. Congratulations and best of luck with future builds. Cheers, Don

I'm really impressed with the great work that has gone into this bike. Truly a labor of love.

I hope you took the prize $ and treated yourself to something nice
I didn't vote for you but contributed to the cause.
I like yellow so you know where my vote went
But I think you definitely deserved the win hands down my brother

Karl,
your testimony should be published.
An excellent read from a true friend and family man.
Again great job makes it all the sweeter to ride.

Thank you so kindly for the kind words (and to Jerry for publishing the full epistle) ...... I sure had fun building Strunzo and am REALLY enjoying riding him now that everything is more or less dialed in.

Get this..................... my wife hit on a 10,000.00 scratch ticket! so we have a new living room set and a little in the bank. but she asked me if there was a splurge item I wanted and I said yes..... JUST a new carbeuretor. She made that face that all wives make when a purchase is out of the realm of their comprehension, but agreed.

So the package from OldBritts came on wednesday: I decided after pulling the carbs off too many times and cleaning that damned idle circuit, to go with a single carb setup. blasphemy I know to many Norton owners, but this is going to be my daily rider/commuter and I want it as reliable and maintenance free as a Brit bike can ever be..... so tomorrow, it's a rainy day and my wife is far away at her mother's house until that evening........

I have a date with a bass ale and a new carb setup 8) . I am so looking forward to being able to be in stop and go traffic without the sputtering and jerking.

thanks again , all........ and i demand that you enjoy your weekend!

Karl

I put a single carb kit on for Franco and I've sure never seen anything easier. Very tempted to do it to mine after the frustration it has given me.

I am truly impressed with your ability to keep the desire alive for all those years to return to a British ride. Then, to execute the task as beautifully as you did deserves our praise. I relate to the fact that you did it virtually by yourself and to your specification. The color choice, bars, and lack of guages gives the bike a wonderful vintage look. As for that big grin you get whenever you fire and ride the beast, PRICELESS.

thanks for those very kind words....... I wish it would warm up a bit so I can get back on the road 8)
