MKIII frame with title on KC craigslist

It's not the vin number, it's the frame manufacturing number. The data plate is gone. Somehow it passed thru the dmv. And now there is another non standard wrong year vin and title out there.

My 1975 MKIII was titled by the original owner in Pennsylvania by the frame number in 1975. It is stamped on the neck of the frame. In my case, the number is 850F1296**. It passed the title inspection when I brought it to Nebraska by the DMV just fine, because that's the way it was done from the original MSO - not the engine number. That's somewhere around the time they were doing away with just engine numbers on titles. My 72 is titled by the engine number. Norton tried to stamp some little Globe emblems in between the 850F and the last number. They barely show up. Nothing suspicious about that frame in KC.

Might depend on the state, Virginia registered mine with just the original number from the Maryland title, 132031 no problem. Probably because it's pre-VIN. It may be some states have number issues or they take the number off the engine?

I would expect for that price, you'd get the tranny cradle & swingarm at least...
