Hello all my fellow E-Start owners,
I have a question pertaining to the factory color as to what exactly was painted.
I suspect the steel field housing was some shade of black, was it flat, satin or gloss?
Were the die cast zinc end covers, especially the fluted end, really painted too or where they just alodined?
Also, forgive me for this is not paint related, what is the Thrust Washer PKG made from? (Item 32 in group 12, 06-6317) Is it phenolic? Mine has disintegrated and will need replaced, I have the raw material if it is just phenolic.
Thanks for your assistance.
All the best.

All exposed area of the starter was painted satin black, same as the cylinder barrels. The face of the drive side cover was unpainted. (where it abuts the primary cover). I don't remember if the thrust washers are brass or steel, but definitely not phenolic.

thanks for that, satin black it shall be.
As it turns out, the remnants of what I took to be a thrust washer are actually bits of the phenolic armature winding separator that is affixed to the gear end of the laminations. I counted six bits and there are twice that missing so someone has been there before me.
The end play is .010" , good enough for the girls I go with.
Thanks again.
