Mk3 wheel offsets

I've searched quite a bit and haven't found the generally-accepted correct figure for the wheel offsets when rebuilding the wheels. It doesn't seem to be in the shop manual and everybody that posts seems to come up with different measurements; I can't do the rim edge measurement since I'm changing to WM3 rims which aren't Dunlaps so is there a correct figure measured to the center of the rim that's accepted to be correct? I'm going to measure my own but I didn't look at the alignment in my bike before I dissembled it so I'm not sure mine were perfect to start. Is there a published factory figure?

The rim centre should ultimately line up with the frame centre line - so that is what you need to be aiming for, rather than relying on some generally accepted offset figure, however, if it helps, the distance from the disc outer face to the rim centre of my Mk3's rear wheel is 3-1/8".

Well I measured my rear and confirmed just about exactly yours: In thousands of an inch: 3.163.

I have this to do also. My bike has stock rims but stainless spokes and whoever did it did not center the wheels. I am just going to center the front wheel in between the forks, right now it is 3/8" off to one side. Then I will center the rear to the backbone of the frame. Most Nortons I have seen don't line up very well!
