Hello All. First off, thanks in advance for any help.

I recently installed a new tri spark ignition. Bike idles beautifully, starts first kick when cold, starts fine immediately after shutting down....but if I wait 10-15 minutes after shutting down and it's hot.....it's a bear to start....6 kicks or more (electric start is not operational). Before the Tri spark I had an old Boyer and the bike was always a first kick starter.

When I installed the Tri Spark, I used the MK III timing peg in the crankcase and noticed the timing mark on the alternator side was off by 2 degrees less. When at 28 degrees according to the crankcase fixing point with the tool...it read 26 degrees on the primary side. I went by the crankcase point and set the timing accordingly. Could the crankcase timing position using the tool be off?
Carbs are original. 17000 miles. But there was no issue prior to installing the Tri Spark.

Thanks.

Do you need to choke it to start it cold ?

99% of electrical problems are carby, and 99% of carby problems are electrical.

Tried it with new plugs in it ?
Gapped the plugs, and filed the top of the centre electrode flat and sharp on the edges (=better spark). ?

I have a Trispark: bike on centerstand in fourth gear, points cover off and ignition on with plugs removed but grounded to the head with leads connected by an assistant, rotate the motor using the rear wheel until you see the little red light on the trispark light up then stop and look at the primary side timing mark, it should read 28-30 degrees BTDC.

This is your initial timing with the trispark, then use your strobe light to check it again while blipping the rpms up to full advanced on the trispark I think around 3000rpm?

Do not trust your timing degree plate. These have been Known to be off from the factory. Use THE FORCE (young Luke) and appropriate intuitional feelings to just before kickback. Perfect.
