Seeing as there's a bit of credit going on for good service (see Amal Premiers) I thought I'd post about the headers I bought from Commando Specialties in the US for my Mk 111.
After over 30 years and 7 Commandos (have 2 x Mk 111 now) these pipes are easily the best I've ever bought, and that includes factory pipes. Fit perfectly and line up properly at the back, well chromed etc etc. Have fitted new British made peashooters to them . The headers are approx twice the cost of what I would pay in the UK (with the postage added) but they are worth it. It's good that they are made in the US aswell. Just ordered another set for the "scruffyish bike" that I use all the time.

Definitely worth knowing where to shop for straight forward aligned headers installing pleasure. I had to grind a lot off the exhaust rose nut and the flange of Viking headers and finally a bit of a kink up by engine to bend enough to clear points cover but at least the Viking chrome didn't flake off or fracture up there yet. Glad we can still Buy American in this case.

I sell the exact same brand of header for Mk 3.
The pipes are well bent, and do not make any incorrect contact. Finish is good.

Does'nt chafe up with the MK 111 primary drain bolt I hope. Any photos ? :|

No fouling of the drain plug. Will post photos of the bike when it's finished (are they ever) just waiting for the paint to be done.

I have them on my MK3, no fouling the primary drain plug, fit well, look good. the chrome isn't blueing immediately like some of the cheaper pipes I've had. the only comment I have is that they seem longer than the pipes I replaced, sliding into my Dunstall silencers maybe 8" or so.

I purchased the stock diameter American made pipes from Commando Specialties and am very pleased with them as well.
Outstanding quality. Heavy steel and beautiful chrome. I coated the insides with Kreem Blue Shield and they haven't discolored after 200 miles.

Ain't they Purdy....

Looking good!
I see they sell both 1 3/8 and 1 1/2 diameter pipes.
I know standard size is the smaller one, but will the larger diameter be better (and work on a 750)?
Mark - where did you get that gold header nut? COOL!

Tom, the header nuts are bronze and I get them from Norvil.
I've run them on all my Norton's because they tend to stay tight better than steel nuts.
I read that this is due to the similarity of the coefficient of expansion of bronze and aluminum.
Plus they look cool. They will dull with age however.

I also read somewhere that running the big bore pipes on a stock bike can actually hurt performance.
Probably has something to do with back pressure or something.

Yes the bronze look cool at first ,yet mine have turned very dark , almost a brown-black. Yes I think the stock diameter best application, just a hunch ,seem to be short one H.P.tester machine ,oh well..
