Bar-end mirrors were certainly around in the '70s, probably earlier. Stadium was one brand I think.

Really? Can't believe I wouldn't have bought a set had they been available since I was heavily into boy-racer stuff back when I was a boy racer! ;) I guess I just never ran across them. :(

Now I have them and they work well but I don't really care for them BUT, I have to admit the look of the bike - Fastback - is a bit more "cafe" with the bar ends than it would be with the stockers, which is good since I like that look. So I'd probably have bar ends now in any case. I tried no mirrors but that seemed almost suicidal and one ride was enough for that! :)

Ill go for the 15 shilling bar ends. You see wot they go for now? Well in fact I just ordered! £44.95 PLUS PP! Gasp!

The 'cut-away front' on the Cruiser helmet is a brilliant idea, just think of the savings on neurosurgery!

the bar-ends are suitable for all scooters ,what up with that ?

It seems to be an ad page intended more for scooterists, however, bar-ends can also be seen on motorcycles in pictures and videos from that era.

Bar end mirrors were definitely around in the 1970s. I fitted one to my 750 Triumph but they weren't that secure. Once, I noticed something whiz by so a quick look in the mirror told me ...nothing...as it was my mirror that had whizzed by.
Your mirror spare has a nut on the stem? Are you he is interrupting a substantive u-turn on the stem, and then use it to block the adjustment? Yes it's alright tomorrow pictures.;)

I never had a mirror correctly tightened we any bike in 42 years stand out without provocation.
The split lock will tear only to the top of the pole of the alloy. Please do not. [/ QUOTE]
Does your aftermarket mirror have a jam nut on the stem? Are you backing off it has half turn from bottomed out on the stem, then using it to lock adjustment?
I've never had a properly tightened we ANY motorbike in mirror 42 years come loose without provocation.
The split lock will only tear up the alloy perch. Please don't.
Unlike bar end mirrors, the conventional ones are no wider than the handlebars.

Not an issue for the clip-on crowd, but for those who enjoy wide bars, sitting more upright, the BEM’s end up “out-there”.
