Milling out the Z plates a tad... (2014)

I once saw a very nice set of Z plates, nothing trimmed but the recessed surfaces had a matt surface finish (shot peened or something similar?) and the proud surfaces/edges were mirror finish polished.
No photo sadly.

@ntst8 you may be thinking of Dave Sundquist?

Looks really neat!

The bike i saw it on (in a lineup at an event in Australia a few years back) was less adventurous than the Sundquist one, and with full Z plates, but yes the finish is spot on.
Thanks.

I'm getting quotes from my local engineering company to have several holes drilled & fully milled out...
Can really decide at the Moment which looks best??

Wow, Nice!!! please add another compliment to the list :D.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Congrats sir I have to agree.... just when you have a plan another brilliant idea surfaces

Or... have them chromed. Easier to maintain than being polished.

Bling bling..

Chroming excellent quality British aluminium parts is definitely the worst you can do. Sooner or later the alloy will corrode and then you will be very sorry you ruined that excellent aluminium part :(

Not likely to fail in my lifetime. The chrome shop I use does copper plate first, then chrome. My rocker covers have been chromed for 40 years with no signs of flaking off.
Timing/primary/gearbox covers get polished and will never be chromed. That would be sinful.

I had a jubilee bonny in the 80's which had chrome casings as OE every two or three years off the chrome would come tock them to companies who swore blind it wouldn't come off ... sadly I never managed to achieve it
