I worked in the shipping industry years ago doing all sorts of hours...its still hard to shake the early rising...what do you do apart from sitting on the internet at work 🤣🤣
Shift engineer , production food related , you don't get time like that in my role , maybe a little, when all the old equipment decides to work together, I think years ago there were hundreds more people , now less people and they want more more more .

Since I must work in a parking garage below our residences, I cannot be using stuff that makes bad odor or leave oily residues on the cement. So kerosene/diesel/gasoline are out.
My soaking drum is outside of my shed in the open and has a cover over the top, my new kero is in a sealed drum and all degeasing jobs are done outside in the open so no mess on the floor of the shed and no odors, stuff that works so well will always have a strong odor so why everything is done outside, dish washer works well on small parts just make sure the wife is not home and don't say anything to her, she will never know but then she has seen me using the wok burner on the gas stove to remove main bearing on Norton crank cases lol or bake newly painted barrels in the oven.
She is a good wife and puts up a lot from my workings, she knows my bikes are number one, but I do look after her needs.

I use various types of "white spirit" in my parts cleaner, including Stoddard Solvent, mineral spirits, naptha, paint thinner, and turpentine, whichever I can get cheapest. Stoddard Solvent is my preference, because it is more highly processed, and has to meet a specific standard, but all the white spirits are equally effective as far as I can tell, and they are compatible when used in mixture. I've also used a mixture of white spirits and diesel fuel, which leaves a very light coating of oil as an anti-rust measure, and is also a bit more economical.

When I was working for a living I contracted with Safety-Kleen for solvents. Now gasoline is the cheapest and best cleaner foe small nasty parts in a small dish pan. For carb parts with varnish and Ethanol crud injector cleaner (Sea Foam) mixed with brake cleaner to slow evaporation in a ash tray size container works for me.
