ok, ok, I am still new here, give me some time to get to know you all... And I promise I will stop saying "fake proddy", at least for today.
Seriously, given Beng comment I think the way to go for me will either be original (till the tank lasts...) or Dunstall/PR fairings. gotta study a bit more I guess.

Loving this forum.

"beng » Wed May 18, 2011 8:47 am .....then put a f(*&ing Honda Dream tank, a Harley Duo-glide or a five-gallon paint bucket on it with a couple of taps added"

Hmmm now there's an idea, a Honda Dream tank. I always liked the Honda Dream!! I know, how about a fake dream tank...Oops sorry Swoosh.

FWIW Orsonoce , I'm replacing my fiberglass roadster tank with a dinged up steel one that came in a box of parts with my bike, but I have been looking at all the cheap honda yamaha suzuki & kawasaki tanks on E-Bay,looks as though some of them could be modified to fit, I'm in Maryland at the moment but will be taking 3 weeks leave during this comming summer and going to Texas so the kids can see grandma and grandpa. I have a '69 commando frame there and a couple of Honda CB 750 and will try a test fit. and welcome to the site. Cj

do you have a phone number or email? tried to phone them on a number Les gave me but no one ever answers there.

quick summary on my search (useful for all who are looking for alloy tanks -in particular the Norvil one):

MickHemmings
Norvil (Les)
RGM

they all are out of stock. and their supplier is Bartel in Ireland.
The delivery time is now 22 weeks.

Burton is also out of stock.
I did not check yet with :
http://www.tabclassics.com/index.php
http://www.thetankshop.com/

The other places that might have them (I've avoided suggesting places in the States so far) would be Fair Spares and Walridge.

Was on the Tank shop site earlier as I may be looking for a tank myself and at the bottom of the home page it states that "delivery for tanks is now 40 weeks"

I've been waiting 7 years for an oil tank from Tank Shop!!

I got a manx sprint tank from TAB last year, excellent quality and not too long to wait

I think I might sell my glass Prody racer stuff & but a TAB tank too. How long did it take to get yours?

Mine was for a featherbed, it took about 8 weeks from time of order

Further news:
From TAB this am:
"I do not have any Norvil tanks in stock.
Most of our tanks are made to order, our current lead time on a Norvil tank is about 12 - 16 weeks from order.
The price of £400 including the Monza cap (No VAT)
Shipping to London is £20"

btw, 2 small bubbles appeared on the left side of my fastback tank. not looking good (yet it is coated -dunno with what though)

Has anyone ever bought a tank before from these guys? http://www.tabclassics.com/categories.php?class=Norton

I've made my decision and I will go for a Norvil tank (alloy) as some of you suggested. So looking for the right option.
(Both Norvil and RGM are currently our of stock.)

thanks

I have a T.A. Baker alloy tank on my 59 Velocette Venom. It was bought on the recomendation of Dave Smith, the now retired Velo guy. He'd bought a number of them from Mr. Baker, and said they were always good. Mine is very well done, and I'm 100% happy with it. I understand that right after I took delivery, Mr. Baker died, and now the tank concern is carried on by an employee of his, who worked with Terry a long time.

what do you guys think of this one?

I'm talking in particular about:
This is NOT a regular Polyester Resin Fiberglass tank you will find elsewhere.
Brand new...Made with the same vinylester Resin formula GAS STATIONS USE for their
BURIED Long Term STORAGE TANKS.
As a precaution an ETHANOL PROOF BIPHENOL EPOXYSEALER is Applied to the entire
tank before assembly, Then pour coated to seal bungs and seams, insuring full fuel proofing!
High Quality lined with Phenol Epoxy for fuel proofing against ethanol damage caused by the new fuel additives.
The Original Tank was Laser scanned and regenerated to form a Faithfully rendered copy of the '60s era Paul Dunstall Cafe Racer Tank, with the addition of a center mounted Flushmount Cap (GAS Cap is available as a separate item).

Gas station tanks are not generally made with vinyl ester resin systems, as this would increase costs considerably, and not offer any great advantage over the high cross link polyester resins which are used. "Biphenol" or properly bisphenol epoxy resin systems are not suitable for use as tank sealers. The fact that the person selling these tanks is not able to offer any sort of guarantee, and feels the need to add a sealer, suggests that failure is almost certainly going to occur within a reasonably short period of time.
