does anyone know if the lucas 16 amp stator is thicker than the 10 amp version? I am having a spacing problem.

the genuine Lucas single phase stators share the same physical dimensions
so there should be no issues with direct replacement ?

This is in an Atlas with a belt drive and I have to space the stator out about 3/16 to clear the front pulley. If you've ever wondered how much room there is between the stator and tin cover, it is less than 3/16. More problems to overcome.

I fitted a Commando triplex chain and clutch to my Atlas. I had to move the stator and rotor outboard about 3/8 inch. I do not know how much surplus room there was between stator and cover, but I had no problem. With everything assembled, the rotor was about flush with the end of the drive side of the crankshaft, and no room for the Atlas nut. The Commando rotor and rotor nut solved that problem, as the nut sleeves INTO the bore of the Commando rotor.

If your rotor does not extend past the end of the drive side of the crank, you should not have a problem. You should then shim the stator with spacers until the stator matches up with the rotor.
