I have this ignition module on a Norton Commando 1971

Lucas O.P.U.S Ignition
Amplifier unit
Type AB5.
12V Neg. Earth

Is it the same as Rita AB5?
Does the Rita also have negative earth?
Anyone who have a wiring diagram for opus or Rita AB5.

I believe that Lucas Opus ignition was fitted to Jaguar cars in the 60s. We tried to buy one direct from Lucas in the early 70s, and were redirected to suppliers of Lucas Rita, who I believe only made the pickup adaptor plate and rotor. We used one on a Suzuki 750 water bottle motor in a speedway sidecar . I don't think it was up to much, however might be OK on a commando.

As well as LAB's link, a quick google shows the Jag V12's used an AMP3 Lucas unit.
No mention there of the AMP5.
Incidentally, a Co called REOPUS is remaking them, for Jags, better than new...

I seem to remember that it was possible for the Rita to spark continuously like an arc welder, if it was set up wrongly.

Forgot to mention that on my system it says AB3, but 3 is crossed and 5 are written afterwards. Could it be that the same components but with a different PICUP makes it an AB5?
I guess OPUS and RITA are the same thing under different names.

The wiring diagram available from Europarts is for Motoguzzi T3, but should work for a Norton.

I'll try.
