Been a while since I last asked for some advice on my upgrade, with gearbox on bike...I was awaiting some parts....new bushings and a 2nd mainshaft gear. Got the gearbox put together and yesterday was the big test ride. Also, new carb jets and needles were installed. After 10 months bike started first kick, idle is much improved. After a warmup, shift into 1st was smooth, bike pulls really well. All shifts were butter smooth. I use, and highly recommend, Redline Heavy Shock Proof gear lube, and I top up with 1 Imperial pint in the gearbox, as suggested by Mick Hemmings, as stated in a written article somewhere. If I had known which parts needed replacing, the job would have went a lot quicker, but as far as the labour, it is a pretty easy upgrade....I am very pleased with the results

Just acknowledging your successful efforts and new found joys and skills. Hope mine goes as well the 5th or 6th time I'm about to do another one for the long run. Its nice not to hunt for N, just snick all the way down then one last light toe dn click. Same with 2nd but so very easy to snick 1st instead is all. Realize that about only oil that can get into bushes can't happen while in lower gears, so to extend life get into 4th when not lugging it.

Thanks Hobot...if you haven't tried the Redline gear lube, give it a go...I also use it in my '67 BSA Lightning, and really, the difference in shifting and finding N
is amazing
