Hi everybody,

I've just started using my new Commando (got it two years ago, MOTed it this month) and I'm hearing a strange knocking noise, specially in 2nd and 3rd gear, something like a slack chain. I think it's comming from the primary transmision, but I'm not sure. The sound completely dissapears in the moment I shift 4th gear and it goes pretty smooth. Any ideas where this sound is coming from?

Thanks and greetings from Spain

Eneko

by the way, it is a '73 850 roadster.

Greetings and yes it sounds like a slack chain in the primary ,but it could also be worn sleeve bushes with the gearbox mainshaft. Take off the primary cover ,check slack and even run the bike to observe things ,won't hurt anything. Grab the clutch (not running) and see if it moves back and forth at all. I hear inflation and food prices are going berserk over there yet house prices are falling. Loved Spain and Barcelona yet many people told us they lived on credit cards to maintain their classy lives. Greeks told us a similar story. P.S. ,change out that Portugeuse layshaft bearing and have a glass of Spanish red for me ,Peter.

Thanks, I'll have a look to the primary and the gearbox.

... yeah, house prices are falling because that's the only way prices could go, getting more expensive was almost imposible  as you said at least we have wine to forget this kind of things...

so you know, it's the right moment if you want to get a holiday house in tha costa brava!!

Yes, open up the primary ,checking for vertical slack and horozontal clutch basket movement. Spain.Greece. Never in my life have I ever seen peoples living so beyond their means then crybabying about it later with bailout talk. The clothes, the beautiful cars and women. The credit cards maxed out with rotating debt. The wines. The azure blue Mediteranean. Can I have your life ?

Oh, Nooo, here we go. That's almost as good as the Brit chap that was complaining about the Belgium fella that they try to tell everyone how to do things and haven't straightened out their own issues with Flanders???

Maybe we should leave these things alone?
