I’ve just purchased a set of Don Pender rearset footrests for my Mk2A Commando. However my bike is in another country at the moment. So that I can be prepared when I am reunited with the bike……..
Could I please get some advice as to which of the following kick start levers will suit :-
Standard Mk2A ?
Standard Mk3 ?
RGM folding kick start ?
Thanks

I find that all the standard levers stick out too far and interfere with one's foot when using rearsets. My solution was the RGM folding lever, but they are not available at present, so probably best to try your standard kickstart lever first.

I have the RGM kick start fitted already on the bike. So, thanks, good to know that the RGM works well with the Don Pender rear sets. Cheers

RGM folding kick start

If the RGM kickstart is the T160 style, this cannot be used

I have the Madass rear sets fitted and have tried both 750 & 850 kick starters without success. To be honest i don't know if its my size of boot of my overall height 1.9 mts 6ft 4" but just struggle with the kick start protrusion being in the way.
If a reverse gear lever is fitted a T160 style Kickstarter can be used.

The RGM is only available as 'T160 ' style, it's the rearsets that come in different variations. So my rearsets, which are a copy of the NYC rearsets, work with the RGM lever, others also work but others do not.

I forgot to mention that I made up my own rear sets, a pair of "normal" folding pegs and a conventional gear linkage ( the rod is I think a Honda part). You cannot use the traditional loopy lever.

Norvil rearsets here, with a std early style kickstarter and a 6'2" rider. The kicker is rotated well forward on the splines to give shin clearance while riding. To kick start pull in the clutch, rotate the kicker to where it would normally be, let go of the clutch and leap to it.

If it's the loopy type lever with linkage, it's a Dunstall duplicate designed to work with the original Commando kicker.
RGM won't work.
Better yet, I think a memo to Don Pender may be in order.

Just a note, if you have the TTI box and the Pender rear sets the T160 lever will not fit.
I use the late model kicker and being small no real issues with riding.

The other problem i find with the Pender (Dunstall Copy) rear set gear is that its too long, this in turn increases the physical height and arcing of your ankle required to change each gear swap. So i reduced the overall length of my lever by around 30mm... yes it has increased the heaviness of the change slightly but the reduction in lever travel is noticeable

Not sure if one of these will work, but it may be worth taking a look a Terry Weedy .com. I have this type on three bikes & they work well.
