Jim,

You are right about standing on the kick starter. After installing your piston and rod kit, with total seal second set. Wow the kick started need some curry! I just got the engine going about an hour ago. The low speed vibes, or lack of them are mighty impressive. So far only ran the engine for a short cycle, but so smmmoootttthhh?
Thanx Jim.

Cheers Richard Stock

I would be curious to read a fuller report on your build and the results.

Russ

Wil do Russ,
Only get a chance to run her in the week-ends, but will fix up the small oil leaks and hope to put some KM on the bike next week-end. I am doing the Australian pilgrimage to Phillip Island for the MotoGP in October, so she will be fully tested by then and I can give my full verdict.

Cheers Richard

I know nobody will believe this! But after I installed Total Seal rings on my Supercharged 850 along with valve guide seals on all 4 valves as recommended by Total Seal. My bike stopped wet sumping! It can sit for months with a dry sump where before i would have to drain the sump after a week of sitting.
Has anybody else had this happen?

What else did you do to it? Are you using the stock breather?

Yes the breather is stock. no other changes. I also notice the oil stays nice and clear and I have been running the same platnum Bosch plugs for 2 years, they still look new.
I installed the rings dry into the original un honed mirror bores wih just a slight oiling of the piston skirts. It does not and did not burn a drop of oil.
I am curious if any one else has had similar results. I realize that this seems to defy logic.
Maybe the stock 850 check valve just started working as designed and is preventing the wet sumping. I dont know but I like it this way!

So are youi running a Mk3 timing cover?? Both my race bikes have them and they never wet sump!

With a blower on there should always be above atmosphere pressure in the combustion bore so always an outward push on oil trying to enter via guides.
There should not be a vacuum when piston descends to draw via intake guides as in nature fed intake. So I do not understand why the valve seals all around, nor how that has anything to do with the anti sump function. Still great to get a good news mystery this time Bruce.

seen the piston in Mk3 timing covers stick open so they weren't working and the bike would wet sump like any other...a bit of polishing of the piston and it's bore and the problem was solved!

I have a MkIII cover on my 72 and the cover is leaking slightly (not sure why) and the bike wetsumps. Cover will come off to rectify both those issues.

Wanted to bring this back to th top and don't even want to here this thing won't be ready for Barber. The triumph will be ready so get that snorton ready. :P

Sorry folks, this is just some interloper who races an inferior marque trying to stir the pot. I'm embarrassed he's here - he's like a mold, just won't go away no matter how much you try.

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

But a very fast mold!

Say WhAT!
Have yoose Norton guys been misleading/concealing from me that an off the shelf item Turnip engine can take on hi cost Norton bombs? Hm the only real Commando isolastci racer uses a stronger Triumph gearbox. Why would Triumph have made a strong transmission than Nortom, hm. Also maybe I wasted money on Qualfie box too, Peel may over power it during initial break in. If this was a soap operator I'd be in suspense to find out it was a Triumph that did the deed. Personally I think the Triumph cleans up to more jewelry like appearance but dirty used Nortons look better than dirty Triumphs. Confused.

More like a bedbug.

Ken, your short-stroke expertise needed over in Tom Kullen's thread about 5-speed gearboxes.
