I have it in my head to completely de-chrome Commando Bizarro.

I have NEW 1.5" headpipes and short, Megaton mufflers that I'm staring at and having "de-chrome" thoughts. How thick is Jet-Hot?, if I had the headpipes coated are they going to be too big to fit into the mufflers?

Jet-Hot is crazy-expensive, is there an alternative?

I think I have the pegs/gas cap etc. figured out (Brass plating?).

I haven't looked into the process or the cost. I do know one place that does it, and everyone I've heard of that has had it done is happy. Keeps your pipes looking pristine, no more bluing

I don't think it's any thicker than chrome plating. I've seen it on Top-Fuel dragracer headers, and it's unfazed by heat. Not cheap, but worth the bucks. The finish is not as shiny as chrome.

If it's not any thicker than chrome I'm probably sold on it for the headpipes/mufflers (the low-gloss black they offer), I have SS t-bolt clamps for muffler clamps and the "dechroming" makes progress.

Jet-Hot pricing:
Headpipes and Mufflers, removing the chrome first.
The estimate is ALMOST $500.00!

That sounds a bit high. They quoted me around $200 for doing a low-quality stainless stock 4-into-two pipe in the bright sliver. Is the black more expensive?

Give these guys a call. They powder coated my e-start frame at what I thought was a good price and it looks great. The owners Pete and Keith both race Buells. I'm going to have the barrels blasted and coated to better radiate heat. I discussed having my "S" exhaust coated and they said there will be no problem with fit.
