It wasn't my fault!

The estimator came by the shop the other day. He looked at the estimate and felt it wasn't high enough. So he upped it. Obviously one of those time you keep your damn mouth shut.

I went to the shop today to collect up the bike. As soon as I get the insurance check I'll start ordering parts. Old Britts has a lot of the stuff I need on backorder. Hopefully that will not the case in a week or so.

The tail light lens was destroyed and the bulb broken. Knowing this I grabbed a spare lens and an LED bulb I had got to try out.

It wasn't my fault!

The bulb worked pretty good.

I ended up not using the lens as the bulb was already red. I only had a couple miles to go home and my dad was following me in the car.

It wasn't my fault!

I disassembled the damaged parts. Not sure I can save any of it. Maybe the license plate...

It wasn't my fault!

Certainly not the license plate holder. As you may know that should be straight...

Ok, orders placed for rear fender, LED light, and license bracket.

Of course LED light and tail light fairing are backordered.

Pretty much can kiss the rest of the riding season good bye.

Too bad I can't get the Cagiva running.

Buck up little camper, we're gonna have a lot more good weather. We have to, bc my bikes not going to be done till late october.

Nice thing about Old Britts being so close is that stuff shows up in a day or so.

That fender is really, really nice. I'm appalled at how cheap it is. $150 for a stainless fender? I don't know how Andover does it.

To mount the proddy seat I drilled a hole in the top of the old fender and ran a dzus up. I'm hesitant to do the same with this fender. The hole will never be seen, even when I convert this back to a Roadster but still...

So far the only part I can get is the tail light fairing. Les doesn't have any and Mick is apparently at the Manx GP? Need to call Angie back on Monday. In the meantime I'll have to band-aid mine back together.

Turn signals will be here next week and I don't know when the LED tail light will get here. It was also back ordered. But I can also band-aid the old light up and I have an old Lucas lens.

I need to get a ride on the bike.

You may end up on top with the accident. Fender looks really fine. Old Britts service is outstanding. Ordered a clutch cable on Friday showed up on Monday. In New Hampshire.

Fred and Ella really have their act together. My stuff shows up quickly to Wisconsin. It's no wonder why I order so much from them.

I got the turn signals today. Theoretically I could put it back together. Still hesitant to drill the hole for the seat.

It's actually possible to remove and replace the rear fender. I don't recommend it.

I forgot that the fender is held on by the... horn. And we all know that the bike is built around the horn.

It wasn't my fault!

It wasn't my fault!

The trick I used was to tape the bottom bolts to the fender. And then carefully getting the horn, washers and nut on. It was like a crazy game of Operation. Luckily I don't have big hands or else it would have been impossible.

I originally had socket head bolt on the bottom bolts. These were very difficult to get off with the tire in the way. I had some hex bolts just the right size so those went back on. Much easier.

It wasn't my fault!

Here's the new turn signals. A little bigger. I used the same kind on the Ducati.

It wasn't my fault!

And finally I drilled. Seat is back on. I got the stainless fender for a 850 so I had to drill holes for the tail light fairing too. My fair got a little smashed but I'm going to epoxy it back together until I can find a replacement. Norvil is out. As I said I have to try Mick on Monday.

Yes, but you have the bolts facing in the wrong direction, and that's why you are finding everything so difficult to fit.

http://www.oldbritts.com/1972_g25.html

The bolts [48] should pass through the battery tray and horn bracket first facing in the opposite direction to how you have them.
The standard horn bracket is then secured to the battery tray by the two nuts [50].
The fender fits over the protruding ends of the rearward facing bolts and rests up against the first pair of nuts, it is then secured by the second pair of (self lock) nuts [51] (and washers [49]).
Replacement of the fender should only require the removal of the two nuts (and other fender mounting fittings) and no need to disturb the horn assembly at all.

Edit: Note that the horn and bolting arrangement [47 -51] in the '72 parts diagram is drawn facing the opposite way to the frame

Thanks for pointing that out two years ago when I put it together.

Of course I turned them around so that I'd have nice pretty socket heads in the fender well and not some nuts. I'm not sure I could have reversed the bolts at this time. It was hard enough as it was. Plus I've got a nonstandard horn bracket.

But as you know, I'm hear so other people can learn from my many mistakes...

These old Cdo sure do entertain endlessly. In fact I've heard they can be never ending projects for many reasons, some like yours. Anywho just sticking my nose in your project to point out what I've seen on every non altered factory rear wheel so far... Look how centered it all is, so hope ya drilled to compensate : )

It wasn't my fault!

In case anyone was wondering the original Lucas lens won't fit in a repop tail light. :(

Not worried if the rear wheel is centered, she'll still pop wheelies and hang with the fast crotch rockets.

It wasn't my fault!

So all buttoned up, backwards bolts, offset tire and all. New fender is beautiful, too bad the seat and tail light cover up most of it.

It wasn't my fault!

A little, ok, a lot of electrical tape holding on the lens. I'll wait to see how the LED mounts before updating the tail light.

At least now if I get some time I can get a ride in.

Well at least you jokingly admit ya can't detect a thing wrong in handling with un-centered rear tire, nor could I, though Peel has her's centered now, but not my Trixie. Its mainly a cosmetic issue such as your current fender farting with. Regular Commando's don't wheelie at speed but them sports bikes do so really really pleasing to see them falling behind grabbing air while Peel just leaped ahead in contests with leaning involved below the ton. Nothing logical or rational to seek such handling but there's nothing logical or rational exposing your self to the fates and hazards or just riding and behaving either.

You realize that the camera perspective is what is making the wheel look offset?

Ok if its just camera angle ignore my remark and quit messing up the ends of your Commando.

this one (sorry only 11 LEDs) plug 'n play, and inexpensive
Will this work with positive Earth? It says all systems but I'm just checking
