Traffic lights around Skagit County (Washington) are gradually going over the video scanners. They compare a memory picture of an empty road, and if it's not empty (even if a seagull has landed), the light will change.
If you think being on a motor cycle is a PITA, try it on a pedal cycle. Of course, with a pedal bike you can get off, pick it up and walk though the intersection regardless of the light controlling the traffic. Once you've lifted the tires off the ground, you're "carrying a parcel" and subject to the laws governing peestrians.
Unfortunately, a Commando is a bit to heavy to be a parcel. I'm surprised that no enterprising young electronics whiz-kid hasn't come up with a device that spoofs the metal detector type traffic lights into thinking you're an 18-wheeler.
