It wasn't my fault!

Traffic lights around Skagit County (Washington) are gradually going over the video scanners. They compare a memory picture of an empty road, and if it's not empty (even if a seagull has landed), the light will change.

If you think being on a motor cycle is a PITA, try it on a pedal cycle. Of course, with a pedal bike you can get off, pick it up and walk though the intersection regardless of the light controlling the traffic. Once you've lifted the tires off the ground, you're "carrying a parcel" and subject to the laws governing peestrians.

Unfortunately, a Commando is a bit to heavy to be a parcel. I'm surprised that no enterprising young electronics whiz-kid hasn't come up with a device that spoofs the metal detector type traffic lights into thinking you're an 18-wheeler.
What is the metal detector type traffic lights?

Many intersections have embedded wires that sense the magnetic flux of a mass of iron/steel over them but many motorcycles don't have enough metal present to be sensed so there are a bunch of trigger devices for sale to increase the magnetic signature of motorcycles, form simple permanent magnet to expensive electromagnets. You can generally see the scribed cuts the wires laid in so sometimes just putting bike right over one does it. Or can look around and run the light, which is an entrainment remark and not legal advice i'd follow.

Hats off to whoever got this enacted in our state. Maybe you could get your elected folks to do the same.

Motorcycles may proceed cautiously through a steady red light after a complete stop; OK Statute 47-11-202

Wow now that's is a remarkale piece of legalized traffic sense like lane slipping, very cool.

NC statute 20-158. Vehicle control signs and signals.

Pertaining to motorcycles:
(e) Defense. - It shall be a defense to a violation of sub-subdivision (b)(2)a. of this section if the operator of a motorcycle, as defined in G.S. 20-4.01(27)d., shows all of the following:

(1) The operator brought the motorcycle to a complete stop at the intersection or stop bar where a steady red light was being emitted in the direction of the operator.

(2) The intersection is controlled by a vehicle actuated traffic signal using an inductive loop to activate the traffic signal.

(3) No other vehicle that was entitled to have the right-of-way under applicable law was sitting at, traveling through, or approaching the intersection.

(4) No pedestrians were attempting to cross at or near the intersection.

(5) The motorcycle operator who received the citation waited a minimum of three minutes at the intersection or stop bar where the steady red light was being emitted in the direction of the operator before entering the intersection.

My highlights in RED.

Must have an inductive loop and you must wait 3 minutes.

Aw crap sounds like a set up to me. I'll make sure its safe physically and legally then get on it out of there no one the wiser. Camera montiored places may snag ya under 3 min mark but camera tickets are easier to nullify and beat.

If ya really dig into the traffic code and how motorcycles that need tags are defined its all commercial use of public right of ways so some jurisdictional funy business from the get go unless you are a paid dispatcher of course.
