Is there morals in business anymore

Swooshdave,
Wow! I wasn’t asking you to defend one or the other... I just simply wanted to know what the differences are. I thought a photo would make it clear. I haven’t lost much sleep over it and It wouldn’t make any difference if is $5.00-$500.00. The post was about morals...

Sorry to offend. No I don't have pictures.

Didn’t take offense... just really wanted to know what the differences are.

Can anyone tell me the differences?
Rod

I don't know what the difference is?
Because we still don't know what item you are talking about.
How about posting a picture of said item & we might be able to puzzle things out

With the elephant in the room... a original DynoDave clutch rod seal—CNW clutch rod seal might be an example

It happens all the time someone comes up with a great idea and starts to sell them for someone else to come along to copy and to sell at a higher price, there is no morals in the business world today, you go to any Asian countries and you can get things made or copied for 1/2 the price, there are still honest business people around but there are a lot more dishonest business people around who are out to make money off someone else's hard work and time and of course it takes a lot of money to fight this and why so many get away with it.

Thanks for that Britbike.
I find Dave a fantastic source of info that I keep going back to. His work maybe copied but never bettered. As Conrad said knowing who made this first! Would help ethically. When I got my first Commando I read up on everything. Less oil in the gearbox don't use the side stand. Two piece clutch pushrod & ball bearing, all to sort a problem I had been told about but never suffered. I brought a oil seal clutch nut many years ago from RGM, it fowled on the outer cover!

There are a few scrupulous businesses, and many not so. If you find an honest one, support it.

For most of my professional career, I have been in business for myself. When I first went into business, a friend said I would not last a year because I was too honest. I said I just did not believe one had to be a crook to succeed. I am still in business 45 years later.

It is like getting punched in the gut when someone rips off your idea or product. And to make it hurt more, they have the audacity to claim you ripped them off.

I agree with Kommando, patents are only worth what you are willing to pay to protect them, and then, only in the country where the patent resides.

There are many products that are produced to improve our Norton’s. They don’t come out of thin air.
Some see a need and design the fix or improvement. Some are expensive, some are not. My point is, if we as a community want to continue to see these products, we must support the innovator not the thief.
I have always been taught that stealing is wrong... Stealing an idea, stealing a process, stealing a product... IS Stealing
Coming up with a list would probably not make it AccessNorton because of the rules but would be interesting.

A friend and fellow construction worker told me he was taking college courses to get out of a lifetime of back-breaking work. He said his current course was called "Business Ethics" I told him business ethics was right up there with "military intelligence", "bipartisan co-operation" and "internet privacy" in the pantheon of oxymorons.

Pointing out something that is unfair is valid, but if you push too hard in the age of social media it creates an atmosphere where the only validity is perfection. At some point you have to have your say, then let it go because,.... There is no graceful dismount from a high horse...

I have always thought it was the Lawyers that caused all this greying of morals and not just in business , anyway you look at this particular issue , it would be a lesser evil if the lawyers were not involved, they are biggest winners in this ,even when on losing side .... I use an original DynoDave clutch rod seal and if it fails I will replace it with exactly the same thing .... no time for un-truths or greedy folks period .... much simpler to live by truth , too difficult to keep lies straight as I have seen over and over in my working life and sadly in my social life , just too much distortion ...... meant no offence to anyone on board here , simply my experience and observations gathered up in 7 decades on this big blue ball ....

I've got two of Dave's seals in place, one on the Commando the other on the 650ss, which requires the Dommie version.
They are simple to install , inexpensive and they work.
Tough to see how that could be improved upon. Show polish on this particular part is not a plus.

comment re bobs mention of Walridge. About 15 years ago I had a somewhat similar experience with them. I was told not to call as I was taking up too much valuable time, but feel free to email questions. This was from Mike.
Also, the lady order taker in those days could get very snarky.
For example, you ask about a part and she spends 30 seconds finding the part and pricing in the system. You decide not to add it to your $400 order as the part is $220 and you thought it might be quite a bit less. She would make it very clear that you are a cheap SOB and have just wasted her time.
Thankfully, that lady has retired/moved on and a very cheerful , helpful lady is now taking phone orders.
With Mike, I will admit it was off-putting to be told to stop phoning with questions about details on the bike parts used in the resto the 650ss. Just after purchasing the 650ss, I called there twice as they had supplied almost all of the parts used in the resto of the bike, which was done by the previous owner, the Ontario Vintage MC club.
I got over it and the email works fine. I think they have changed things over the years and seem to be very interested in keeping customers happy now.
Back then I also got some snark from another well known lady.

Norton parts dealer/order taker, so maybe it was me?
Coincidentally , that was over Dynodave clutch pushrod seals. They didn't sell them and I thought they should.
Anyway, I haven't had a problem with any of the parts dealers for years now.
Online ordering is a blessing!

I am still waiting to hear the offenders side of why he did this!

By sheer coincidence I sent the following to DD on the 22nd of last month, trying to 'do the right thing' However, I still await a reply :-(

Good morning/afternoon/evening..
Having just spent a glorious few hours washing clutch plates (things were getting a drag!), my thoughts now turn to installing a seal to allay this chore....
Are your nut/seals available in the UK? Or direct order only? (Bike is a Mk3 with primary chain and electric start intacto).
I did find this on fleabay, Les incognito? Or not?

06-8833 NORTON COMMANDO CLUTCH ROD TO GEARBOX NUT AND SEALING O RING | eBay
1 x 06-8833 clutch rod seal nut for Norton Commando motorcycles. Genuine Norton. I do not know if this will fit any other applications.

Is it one of yours? (bought and paid for?), if so then ordering one from this source would be preferable for me due to time constraints, but I have no wish to support 'pirate' copies, of course.
If direct is the only option, please quote posted price to UK if possible (or available) please..
Many thanks

CBC,
Thanks for taking the effort to find and support the original designer... his website is AtlanticGreen.com.
I purchased a madass throttle linkage not long ago...a piece of jewelry and performs great...would it be ok to produce a copy? Maybe a little cheaper... hell NO... he took the time and effort to design and manufacture it.
Let’s not eat our own

Having purchased 3 of the DD clutch rod seals from Dave, I'll have to say that this one from Norvil is not exactly the same. The difference is that
it appears to have an external boss which I assume would contain the O ring inserted from the other side.. The external face of the DD item
is flat and smooth but does have a recess on the inside for the O ring. Still, for all intent and purpose the two are the same.
While I cannot find it on their website now, I do recall seeing an exact duplicate of the DD item in one of A/N's digital newsletters in the past being
offered as a new item. Based on some of his posts on this forum, DD is fully aware the disrespect he has received from some people within
the Norton community.
