Hi

Helped out someone with a similar problem. New coils new carbs new plugs leads etc. Timing was wrong!!!! dont trust the plate on the inner cover, tdc it with a dead stop & start from that. Penny dropped when it ran fine with my Interspan race ignition that you set at top dead center! Chased round in a full circle looking for a component problem etc. When we raised the tickover & matched the carbs slides lift ,the colder pipe would swap sides!!!!!

all the best Chris

In the best of all worlds, you need to find Top Dead Center (there are various methods for this), then attach a degree wheel to your cam or drive side crank and determine if the degree marker on your primary outer cover is set correctly. It has been known to be off as much as 4 degrees on some bikes. Luckily mine was spot on, but it is a good thing to do, and only needs to be done once.
